VECV and Jio-bp Pulse Join Hands to Boost EV Charging in India

Post by : Armust Desk

VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd (VECV), a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jio-bp Pulse to improve EV charging access for commercial vehicles. This partnership will allow customers of Eicher trucks and buses to use Jio-bp’s extensive network of over 6000 fast-charging points, the largest in India.

The collaboration aims to remove one of the major obstacles in electric vehicle adoption—charging availability. By making it easier for electric trucks and buses to find fast chargers, VECV and Jio-bp Pulse hope to accelerate the shift toward zero-emission logistics in India.

Accelerating Electric Vehicle Adoption

The MoU focuses on speeding up the adoption of electric trucks and buses in India. Jio-bp Pulse will bring its expertise in EV charging infrastructure and offer customised solutions for different fleet needs. VECV will contribute its deep technical knowledge of electric trucks to ensure the partnership meets the real-world requirements of commercial operators.

As part of the collaboration, the public charging network will be integrated directly into VECV’s My Eicher fleet management app. This will allow fleet managers and drivers to see real-time information about charger locations, availability, and compatibility with their vehicles. This step is expected to make fleet operations smoother and more reliable.

Leadership Perspectives

Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of VECV, commented on the partnership:

"The MoU with Jio-bp Pulse is a major milestone in electrifying trucking in India. By connecting our My Eicher app to Jio-bp Pulse’s network, we are tackling a critical barrier to electric fleet adoption. Our customers will now have seamless access to high-power chargers wherever our vehicles operate, making the transition to electric fleets simpler and faster."

Sarthak Behuria, Chairman of Jio-bp, added:

"This partnership is an important step in transforming India’s mobility. Electric mobility is central to this change. By collaborating with VECV, we are helping fleet operators electrify their vehicles and supporting the government’s ambitious goal of widespread EV adoption across India."

Depot-Level Charging and Infrastructure Projects

Beyond public charging points, VECV and Jio-bp Pulse will also work together on depot-level charging solutions. This includes installing charging stations at fleet depots and bus garages to support large fleets. Customized agreements will be signed depending on customer requirements, ensuring that companies have the right infrastructure for their electric vehicles.

This approach addresses the unique challenges faced by commercial fleets, including overnight charging, high-power charging for quick turnaround, and reliability for long-distance routes. By providing both public and depot-level charging, the collaboration creates a comprehensive solution for the Indian EV market.

Impact on the EV Ecosystem

The partnership between VECV and Jio-bp Pulse is expected to have a significant impact on India’s EV ecosystem. It will:

  • Increase confidence among fleet operators to switch to electric trucks and buses.

  • Reduce range anxiety by providing easy access to charging stations across major routes.

  • Help India move closer to zero-emission logistics and a cleaner transport system.

  • Support government initiatives for sustainable transport and widespread EV adoption.

Experts believe that collaborations like these are crucial for transforming India’s trucking industry. While electric passenger vehicles have seen growth, the adoption of electric trucks and buses has been slower. Reliable charging infrastructure is a key factor in encouraging fleet operators to transition to electric vehicles.

Benefits for Fleet Operators and Drivers

For fleet operators, this partnership brings several advantages:

  • Real-time charger information through the My Eicher app.

  • Access to India’s largest DC fast-charging network, ensuring minimal downtime.

  • Customized depot charging solutions to manage large fleets efficiently.

  • Support from VECV’s EV technology expertise to optimize vehicle performance.

For drivers, the integration of charging data into the app ensures they can plan their routes with confidence, knowing that a charger will be available when needed. This makes long-haul trips safer and more convenient for electric trucks and buses.

Both VECV and Jio-bp Pulse have highlighted that this partnership is just the beginning. Future collaborations will focus on:

  • Expanding the charging network to more locations across India.

  • Introducing innovative solutions to make charging faster, safer, and more efficient.

  • Tailoring depot-level solutions to meet the needs of various fleet sizes and operations.

  • Encouraging more fleet operators to transition to electric vehicles.

As India moves towards a cleaner and more sustainable transport system, collaborations between vehicle manufacturers and charging infrastructure providers will play a key role in making electric mobility mainstream.

The MoU between VECV and Jio-bp Pulse represents a major step forward in India’s EV journey. By combining VECV’s expertise in electric trucks and buses with Jio-bp Pulse’s expansive charging network, fleet operators are now better equipped to adopt electric vehicles at scale.

This partnership is expected to accelerate the transition to zero-emission logistics, reduce environmental pollution, and support India’s goals for sustainable transport. With public and depot-level charging solutions, electric fleets can operate efficiently and confidently, marking a new era for commercial EV adoption in India.
