Air India has been named the ‘Most Improved Airline’ at the APEX Global EXPO held at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The accolade, alongside its Four-Star Global Airline rating, underscores the airline’s rapid progress in its ongoing transformation journey.
Recognition Based on Passenger Votes
The award holds special significance as it was determined by over one million verified passenger votes across 600 airlines worldwide. The voting process was independently audited, ensuring transparency and credibility. This reflects the tangible impact of Air India’s recent reforms on customer satisfaction.
Vihaan.AI Transformation Driving Change
Over the past three years, Air India has been executing the Vihaan.AI strategy to modernize all aspects of its operations. A landmark step in this journey was placing one of aviation’s largest aircraft orders, totaling 570 narrow-body and wide-body jets, aimed at expanding its global network.
In addition, the airline invested USD 400 million to refurbish its existing fleet, upgrading cabins, seating, and in-flight entertainment systems. These measures not only enhance passenger comfort but also align Air India with leading international carriers.
Enhancing Passenger Experience
Air India has prioritized customer-centric reforms, including:
Launching an award-winning mobile app for seamless booking and travel management.
Redesigning cabin environments and in-flight dining experiences with gourmet meals, upgraded chinaware, and glassware.
Rolling out premium bedding and new amenity kits to meet global service standards.
These initiatives have reshaped passenger perceptions, helping Air India move ahead of several regional and international competitors in the APEX survey.
Workforce and Leadership Recognition
CEO & MD Campbell Wilson dedicated the award to the airline’s frontline employees, recognizing their key role in driving transformation. Wilson emphasized that while the recognition validates progress, maintaining consistent service quality remains a primary focus.
This approach highlights how strong leadership and committed employees can accelerate change in a competitive industry.
Competitive Edge on the Global Stage
Air India’s recognition comes amid stiff competition from carriers like Singapore Airlines, Emirates, and Qatar Airways, which consistently rank among the best for passenger experience. Historically, Indian airlines have lagged in premium service rankings; this award marks a significant leap toward closing that gap.
With one of the world’s largest fleet expansion plans underway, Air India is strategically positioning itself to compete with top-tier international airlines, especially on long-haul routes where service quality is a key differentiator.
Hospitality with Indian Touch
Beyond modern fleet upgrades and service improvements, Air India continues to emphasize hospitality rooted in Indian culture. The combination of global aviation standards and traditional Indian warmth is expected to become a defining feature of the airline’s international appeal.
