In a major push for India’s telecom infrastructure, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated BSNL's ‘Swadeshi’ 4G stack on Saturday, marking India’s entry into a select group of nations that manufacture homegrown telecom equipment, including Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, and China.

Silver Jubilee Celebration & Tower Commissioning

On the occasion of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s silver jubilee, PM Modi commissioned over 97,500 mobile 4G towers, including 92,600 sites using indigenous technology, built at a cost of approximately Rs 37,000 crore.

Future-Ready Network & Digital India Vision

The cloud-based Swadeshi 4G network is designed to be future-ready and 5G-upgradable, aligning with the government’s Digital India vision. Officials highlighted that this rollout will bridge the digital divide and empower rural communities.

Connectivity for Remote Villages

With this launch, over 26,700 unconnected villages, including 2,472 in Odisha, in remote, border, and left-wing extremism-affected areas will receive mobile connectivity. The initiative will benefit more than 20 lakh new subscribers.

Green Telecom Initiative

The new towers are solar-powered, forming India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites, promoting sustainable infrastructure development.

Digital Bharat Nidhi & 100% 4G Saturation

PM Modi also unveiled India’s 100% 4G saturation network through the Digital Bharat Nidhi mission, connecting 29,000–30,000 villages in a mission-mode project, further strengthening nationwide digital access.
