The future of maritime trade, global mining powerhouse BHP has announced the long-term charter of two ammonia-fuel ready bulk carriers from China’s COSCO Shipping Bulk. The agreement marks one of the first significant moves to introduce low-carbon fuel vessels into mainstream commercial dry bulk operations—a key milestone in the global shipping industry’s race to decarbonize.
The two state-of-the-art newbuild bulk carriers are designed to transport iron ore and other commodities across major international sea routes, including BHP’s critical export lanes from Australia to Asia.
