Boeing has reached a tentative labor agreement with a union representing around 1,600 white-collar workers employed at Spirit AeroSystems. The agreement comes shortly after Boeing completed its $4.7 billion acquisition of the aircraft parts supplier.
The deal was announced by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, known as SPEEA. The union said its negotiation team in Wichita, Kansas, has unanimously recommended that members approve Boeing’s proposal.
Contract discussions began after the acquisition was completed in December. Talks could not start earlier due to labor law restrictions that apply during corporate takeovers.
According to union officials, the proposed agreement brings several improvements for employees. These include stronger medical and dental coverage, increased vacation time, and improved salary pools for future pay raises. Workers would also receive a one-time $6,000 bonus if the agreement is approved.
The proposal includes a 20% increase in wage pools spread over roughly five years. It also provides a 50% yearly increase in promotional funds and introduces a 10% retirement savings match beginning in 2027.
James Hatfield, who led the union’s negotiation team, said the offer addresses many of the concerns raised by workers. He described the deal as fair and beneficial, providing both short-term gains and long-term security.
Boeing said it is pleased that the union’s bargaining committee has endorsed the offer. A company spokesperson stated that the proposal would give employees higher wages, better benefits, and more paid time off, and encouraged workers to vote in favor of the deal.
Union members have until January 30 to review and vote on the agreement. The current six-year labor contract is set to expire on January 31, 2026.
Negotiations had paused earlier this month, with union leaders saying Boeing was not fully prepared at that time. Talks resumed after January 5 and progressed quickly, leading to the tentative agreement.
If approved, the deal is expected to bring stability to the workforce as Boeing continues to integrate Spirit AeroSystems into its operations. The final decision now rests with union members, whose vote will determine the next steps.
