Cessna CJ4 Overruns Runway Strikes House in Mayfield No Injuries

Post by : Meena Rani

A Cessna Citation CJ4 overran Runway 14 at the Mayfield Graves County Airport (M25) on Thursday, striking a nearby residence. According to the FAA and Graves County Sheriff’s Office, the 2013 CJ4, registered as N577RT, sustained significant damage after its left wing collided with the house. Remarkably, both the sole pilot and the resident were unharmed.

Timeline of the Crash

Sheriff Jon Hayden reported that dispatchers received notifications of a possible crash at 3:49 p.m. Responders discovered that the jet had gone beyond the runway, crossed a grassy area, breached a perimeter fence, and traveled across Kentucky Route 58 before impacting the house located in the 2100 block east of Mayfield.

“The residence was occupied by the resident, but she was not injured. The aircraft was occupied only by the pilot, and he had no visible injuries,” the sheriff confirmed.

Emergency Response

Local and state emergency management agencies responded promptly to the scene. KY Route 58, between KY 131 and KY 301, was temporarily closed to traffic to secure the area. The highway reopened by midday today after the crash site was cleared.

Investigation

The FAA and NTSB have been notified and are conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the runway overrun. Authorities have confirmed that the crash scene remains under investigation to ensure safety and proper documentation.
