A major fire broke out in huts near the Harbour line local train tracks in the Dharavi area of Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, prompting the temporary suspension of train services on the affected stretch.
According to officials, the fire erupted around 12:30 pm in the huts located inside the Navrang Compound on the 60-foot road. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
At least four fire engines and other firefighting vehicles rushed to the site to control the blaze. A civic official confirmed, “There is no report of any injuries to anyone.”
Due to the proximity of the fire to the railway tracks, local train services between Bandra and Mahim on the Harbour line were temporarily suspended. A Western Railway spokesperson said, “The electric supply to overhead equipment has been disconnected as a safety measure due to the fire incident in the shanties adjacent to Up Harbour line on the east side between Mahim and Bandra at around 12:15 pm.”
Train services have been regulated to ensure passenger safety, with officials noting, “No risk to any passenger or trains as they have been regulated and are away from the site.”
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined, and authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
Passengers traveling on the Harbour line are advised to check for updates and plan their journeys accordingly until services return to normal.
