India is moving toward cleaner and greener transport—even in heavy industries like mining. GreenLine Mobility Solutions, a leading logistics company focused on sustainability, has announced a major investment of ₹4 billion (around $46 million) to bring electric trucks to Hindustan Zinc, one of the largest mining companies in the country.
This is a big step for India’s mining sector, which has always used diesel-powered trucks. Now, electric trucks will start replacing those diesel vehicles, helping to reduce pollution and support India’s climate goals.
GreenLine’s ₹4 billion investment will be used to grow its fleet of electric trucks, specially made for tough mining work. These trucks will be used to carry materials between Hindustan Zinc’s mines and smelters (factories that process metals).
The new trucks will not just help the environment—they will also set an example for how the mining industry can move away from polluting fuels and use clean energy instead.
Most trucks used in mining today run on diesel, which causes air pollution and adds to climate change. But electric trucks do not release harmful smoke or gas. They are quieter, cleaner, and better for health and the environment.
This change is a key part of Hindustan Zinc’s plan to become a zero-emissions company by 2050. That means they want to stop adding harmful gases to the air completely in the future.
The rollout of these electric trucks will start in 2025. It will not happen all at once. The trucks will first be used on the busiest routes to test how they work. Slowly, more trucks will be added as the system grows.
This step-by-step plan will:
Make it easier for workers to learn new systems
Help GreenLine improve the technology along the way
Ensure no delays in the daily work at the mining sites
Electric trucks for mining need to be stronger than regular electric trucks. They must carry very heavy loads, travel on rough roads, and run non-stop for long hours.
These trucks are specially designed for:
Heavy-duty transport
Hilly and rough mining terrain
Continuous usage with fewer breakdowns
Instead of waiting hours to charge, GreenLine will set up battery-swapping stations. This means when a truck’s battery is low, it can quickly exchange it for a charged one—just like replacing batteries in a remote control.
This system will:
Save time
Make sure trucks can keep running
Help monitor battery health easily
Be more flexible and easier to scale
For longer routes where electric trucks still face limits, GreenLine will double the number of trucks that run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG is cleaner than diesel, so it's a good temporary solution while electric trucks get better.
This move is not just good for the environment. It also saves money in the long run. Electric trucks cost less to:
Refuel (electricity is cheaper than diesel)
Maintain (fewer parts to break)
Run for longer years (last longer than diesel trucks)
Also, companies that care about the planet often attract more investors and better support from the government.
Experts believe this change will have a big impact. According to a report in Mining Sustainability Quarterly (2025), mining is the perfect place to start using electric trucks because:
The routes are predictable
Trucks go back to base often
Work is non-stop, so cleaner options matter even more
The report says, “Electrification of mining transport is one of the best ways to cut pollution fast in this sector.”
More mining companies around the world are being asked to cut pollution. Some are already setting emission goals, reporting their pollution levels, and tying boss salaries to environmental progress.
This shows that the GreenLine-Hindustan Zinc partnership is not just a smart move, but also part of a global trend.
GreenLine’s ₹4 billion investment with Hindustan Zinc is a game-changer for India’s mining and transport industry. It shows that even big and tough industries can be clean, modern, and smart.
This move will not only help protect our air and climate, but also save money and create new clean technology jobs in the future.
India is proving that green growth is possible, and the journey to a cleaner tomorrow has already begun.
