Honda has officially introduced its WN7 electric motorcycle, marking its entry into the performance electric bike segment. The company aims at European riders with this bike, combining modern styling with electric power. While it looks impressive on paper, its real-world appeal may be limited due to price and performance balance.
Design and Power Variants
The WN7 sports a bold, boxy design with a single-sided swingarm and futuristic aesthetics. Honda offers two main power options: an 18kW version for A2 licence holders and an 11kW version for A1 licence holders. The motorcycle can reach a peak power of 50kW with a torque of 100Nm. This makes it competitive with some petrol bikes in terms of power, although sustained power output is closer to smaller 200-250cc bikes. The top speed is claimed to exceed 110km/h.
Performance and Range
Honda claims that the WN7 can cover more than 130km on a single charge. However, the company has not clarified the testing conditions, which makes the real-world range uncertain. While its torque and peak power seem strong, the sustained performance makes it more suitable for city commuting rather than long highway rides.
Charging Options and Convenience
The WN7 comes equipped with Type 2 home charging and CCS2 fast charging. Fast charging allows the battery to reach 80% in just 30 minutes, while a full home charge takes under three hours. This makes it convenient for daily use, particularly for riders with limited charging time.
Pricing and Market Position
The WN7 is priced at GBP 12,999 (around ₹15.56 lakh), placing it in the premium electric bike category. For comparison, other electric bikes in Europe, like the Ultraviolette F77, are priced lower, while high-performance petrol motorcycles offer similar power at a lower price. The high cost and niche positioning suggest Honda is testing the market rather than aiming for mass adoption.
Likely Future in India
Given its premium price and the slow pace of Honda's electric bike rollout in India, it is unlikely the WN7 will be launched in the Indian market soon. It is primarily a technology showcase, reflecting Honda’s interest in the electric two-wheeler segment without a firm commitment to local production.
