India is taking another big step towards green and clean public transport. On August 19, 2025, Chartered Speed and EKA Mobility announced a new partnership under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa Scheme. Together, they will deploy 1,135 electric buses that will run across seven states and union territories in India. These buses are expected to carry more than 3.6 lakh passengers every day and create over 2,500 new jobs.
The Government of India launched the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme to improve city transport and reduce pollution. Under this scheme, Chartered Speed and EKA Mobility have already secured approval for 900 buses earlier, and now they have received another Letter of Confirmation of Quantity (LOCQ) for 235 more buses.
Chartered Speed will operate and maintain these new buses in four states:
Madhya Pradesh: 110 buses
Odisha: 60 buses
Chhattisgarh: 35 buses
Meghalaya: 30 buses
With this, the total number of buses to be deployed by the partnership has reached 1,135.
Sanyam Gandhi, Whole-Time Director of Chartered Speed, said the company wants to “transform everyday travel through clean, efficient, and inclusive public transport.” He added that this partnership shows their strong commitment to India’s mission of green mobility.
Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer of EKA Mobility, said their goal has always been to provide safe, clean, and affordable transport for all. He explained that every electric bus on the road will help make Indian cities “smarter, greener, and more people-friendly.”
This project is important for three big reasons:
Cleaner Air – Electric buses do not produce smoke like diesel buses. This means less pollution and better health for people.
Better Travel – The buses will provide safe, modern, and reliable service for lakhs of daily passengers in big and small cities.
New Jobs – More than 2,500 people will get direct or indirect employment because of this project, from drivers to maintenance staff.
The strength of this project lies in the combination of skills. Chartered Speed brings long experience in operating city and intercity buses across India. The company already runs over 2,000 buses and serves 3.5 lakh passengers daily.
EKA Mobility, on the other hand, is a new-age electric vehicle company supported by global partners like Pinnacle Industries (India), Mitsui (Japan), and VDL Groep (Netherlands). EKA focuses on designing and manufacturing commercial electric vehicles using modern technology and cost-efficient processes.
Together, these two companies are making a powerful team—one provides the technology, while the other ensures smooth operations on the ground.
The buses will run across Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. This means that both big cities and smaller regions will benefit from cleaner and faster public transport.
India is one of the fastest-growing countries in terms of population and transport needs. With more people moving to cities every year, public transport has to grow in both size and quality. By using electric buses, India is not only improving travel but also fighting climate change.
The deployment of 1,135 electric buses is not just about numbers—it is about shaping the future of India’s transport system. It shows how partnerships between private companies and the government can change lives. From students and office workers to tourists and families, millions will enjoy smoother and greener travel because of this plan.
The story of Chartered Speed and EKA Mobility is also a reminder that change is possible when vision meets action. India’s move towards electric buses is setting an example for the world—clean transport is not just a dream, it is becoming a reality on Indian roads.
