Kim Jong Un Signals Continued Missile Push as North Korea Plans Next Five Years

Post by : Saif

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has sent a clear message to the world: his country is not slowing down its missile program. During recent visits to major weapons factories, Kim made it known that missile and ammunition production will remain a top priority for North Korea over the next five years. His remarks, reported by state media, come at a time of rising tension in the region and renewed worries about global security.

According to North Korea’s official news agency, Kim visited several key munitions enterprises during the final months of 2025. During these visits, he stressed that missile and shell production plays a crucial role in strengthening the country’s ability to deter war. In simple terms, Kim believes that stronger weapons make North Korea safer by discouraging its enemies from attacking.

Kim also approved draft plans to modernize major weapons factories. These documents are expected to be presented at an important ruling party meeting scheduled for early 2026. This meeting is likely to set North Korea’s national development goals for the next five years, including its military and defense strategy. The approval of these plans shows that weapons development will be a central part of the country’s future direction.

This announcement follows other recent displays of military strength by North Korea. Just a day earlier, state media showed Kim overseeing the construction of a large nuclear-powered submarine. He was accompanied by his young daughter, who is often seen with him during major public events, leading some observers to believe she may be his future successor. North Korea also revealed the test-firing of long-range surface-to-air missiles, further underlining its focus on military expansion.

For many countries, especially South Korea, Japan, and the United States, Kim’s statements are a cause for concern. Missile development in North Korea has long been a sensitive issue because of the country’s history of weapons tests and its refusal to fully cooperate with international efforts to limit its nuclear and missile programs. Each new signal of expansion raises fears of instability and the risk of miscalculation.

At the same time, North Korea argues that its actions are defensive. The leadership often claims that military strength is necessary to protect the country from external threats and pressure. Kim’s repeated emphasis on “war deterrence” fits this long-standing narrative.

However, critics say continued investment in weapons comes at a high cost for ordinary North Koreans. The country struggles with economic hardship, food shortages, and limited access to basic needs. Many outside observers question whether focusing so heavily on missiles truly serves the people’s interests.

As North Korea prepares to outline its next five-year plan, the world will be watching closely. Kim Jong Un’s recent remarks leave little doubt that missiles and military power will remain central to his vision. Whether this path brings security or deeper isolation for North Korea remains an open question, but for now, the signal is clear: the missile program is here to stay.
