Mumbai, July 26, 2025 — MG Motor India has pulled the wraps off its most dramatic vehicle yet—the MG Cyberster, an all-electric, two-door convertible sports car that combines performance, design, and clean energy into one bold statement. Launched at ₹75 lakh (ex-showroom), the Cyberster now holds the title of India’s first high-performance electric roadster, and perhaps its most visually striking electric vehicle to date.
Unveiled initially as a concept in 2021 and globally showcased at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, the Cyberster has officially arrived on Indian shores as a CBU (completely built unit), limited in volume but massive in ambition. With a top speed of 200 km/h, 0–100 km/h sprint in under 4 seconds, and over 500 km of range, MG’s Cyberster aims to do more than just turn heads—it’s out to redefine performance in India’s luxury EV market.
Design That Dares: A Convertible Unlike Any Other on Indian Roads
From the moment it was revealed, the MG Cyberster stood out as a radical departure from conventional EV designs. This car doesn’t just whisper innovation—it screams revolution. Styled with scissor doors, wide haunches, and a sweeping long bonnet, the Cyberster takes inspiration from classic British roadsters, while being entirely futuristic in execution.
MG says the design reflects its heritage dating back to its origins as "Morris Garages" in the UK, where roadsters like the MG B and MG TF once ruled the highways. Now, in the electric age, the Cyberster channels that spirit into a zero-emissions avatar.
The exterior features include:
It's a car that demands attention—even when parked.
Performance Specs: Electric Muscle with a Roadster Soul
The MG Cyberster isn't just for show. It’s a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive EV with serious power. The top variant delivers 536 bhp and 725 Nm of torque, enough to push the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds—matching or even exceeding traditional petrol-powered sportscars in the same price bracket.
MG claims the top speed is 200 km/h, while the performance is regulated by a 50:50 weight distribution and low centre of gravity, thanks to the floor-mounted battery pack. The Cyberster rides on a bespoke EV platform developed by MG’s parent company, SAIC Motor, known as the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP).
Range anxiety? Not here. The Cyberster packs a 77 kWh battery that offers an estimated 520 km of range (WLTP), depending on the driving conditions. It supports ultra-fast charging, allowing the battery to juice up from 10 to 80 percent in under 35 minutes using a 150kW DC charger.
This kind of performance at ₹75 lakh puts the Cyberster in league with international rivals like the Porsche Taycan, BMW i4 M50, and even the Tesla Roadster—although none of them offer a drop-top experience in India.
Interior & Technology: Gaming Meets Driving
Step inside the Cyberster, and it’s clear MG didn’t stop at just design and power—the interior is a tech fest. Inspired by gaming cockpits and designed with a driver-centric layout, the dashboard features a triple-screen setup wrapping around the steering wheel.
This includes:
The steering wheel itself is flat-bottomed and fighter-jet inspired, with integrated drive mode selectors and haptic touch controls.
Voice control, ambient lighting, and a 14-speaker Bose sound system round out the premium cabin experience. Seats are low-slung sports buckets, clad in vegan leather with red accents and contrast stitching—luxury meets sustainable design.
MG also offers OTA (over-the-air) software updates, making the Cyberster feel more like a smart device than just a car.
Limited Numbers, Unlimited Charm: India Gets a Taste of Halo EVs
Only a limited number of Cyberster units will be imported into India under the CBU route in 2025. MG has not confirmed exact production volumes for the Indian market, but bookings have already begun at select MG showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with delivery timelines ranging between 3–6 months.
This exclusivity is part of MG's strategy to create a ‘halo effect’ in its product lineup. While the ZS EV and Comet cater to urban mass EV buyers, the Cyberster is aimed squarely at EV enthusiasts, luxury lifestyle seekers, and early adopters who want a piece of the electric performance revolution.
According to MG India President Rajeev Chaba, “The Cyberster isn't just a car—it’s a symbol. It showcases where MG is headed in design, technology, and aspiration. India is ready for emotion-driven EVs, and the Cyberster is our answer.”
Strategic Timing: A Statement Ahead of India’s EV Pivot
The Cyberster’s launch also comes at a strategic moment. India’s EV market is maturing beyond utilitarian offerings, and premium buyers are no longer limited to ICE performance sedans and SUVs.
With India’s luxury EV space heating up, and the government pushing policies like FAME II, state-level EV subsidies, and fast-charging network expansion, MG’s Cyberster helps position the brand as a premium innovator, not just an urban electric utility provider.
Moreover, with luxury rivals like Mercedes EQS, Audi e-tron GT, and BMW iX already selling in the ₹1 crore-plus segment, MG undercuts the competition by nearly 25–30%, offering something they don’t—a sporty convertible.
Real-World Impact: Can India Embrace a ₹75 Lakh EV Roadster?
That’s the million-rupee question—or rather, 7.5 million. For India’s small but growing performance car community, the Cyberster represents a glimpse of the electric future without compromise.
Enthusiasts have reacted positively, with many drawing comparisons to legacy convertibles like the Jaguar F-Type and BMW Z4, while admiring the bold risk MG has taken.
Auto influencer Kabir Mehta noted on social media, “The Cyberster is proof that electric cars can have soul. It’s edgy, fast, and finally, something exciting in a world of same-looking EVs.”
While practical concerns like charging infrastructure and high import duties remain, MG is offering complimentary installation of a 7.4 kW home charger, and one year of free public charging at select charging stations across India.
Can the Cyberster Inspire a New Category?
The question is not just whether the Cyberster will sell—it’s whether it can spark demand for emotional EVs. If it succeeds, it might convince other automakers to bring their own EV roadsters and coupes to India.
Tesla’s long-awaited Roadster 2.0, Rimac’s hyper-EVs, or even an electric Lotus could see India as a viable niche market in the next few years.
MG, with this bold move, has staked its claim in that niche first.
Beyond Numbers, a Bold Cultural Shift
MG’s launch of the Cyberster at ₹75 lakh is not about volume—it’s about vision. It’s about changing what an EV can be in the Indian imagination. No longer confined to the boxes of hatchbacks or SUVs, electric cars are now art, ambition, and adrenaline—and the Cyberster proves that.
It’s fast, loud (in its silence), and unapologetically different. And in a market often obsessed with practicality and price tags, that alone makes it a trailblazer.
