Montra Electric Shifts Super Auto to Siliguri via Rail Cutting Costs

Post by : Meena Rani

Montra Electric Last-Mile Mobility has successfully shifted its flagship electric three-wheeler, the ‘Super Auto’, from Tada, Andhra Pradesh, to Siliguri, West Bengal, marking its first bulk railway shipment. The move demonstrates a strategic focus on smarter, greener logistics, achieving delivery in under five days—a reduction of over 60% in transit time—while also cutting approximately 15,800 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

The initiative highlights Montra Electric’s approach to combining efficient logistics with sustainability, reducing overall transport costs by up to 30%, easing highway congestion, and ensuring vehicles reach customers promptly during peak demand periods such as festivals.

Leveraging India’s Railway Infrastructure

India’s extensive railway network has been increasingly tapped by the EV sector to optimize vehicle distribution. Montra Electric has established a dedicated warehouse facility in Siliguri to manage dispatches efficiently, reducing dependency on road transport and contributing to lower carbon emissions.

Rail-based logistics, especially for bulk shipments, not only cuts cost but also enhances the reliability and predictability of delivery schedules, positioning Montra Electric as a leader in sustainable EV distribution solutions.

CEO on Sustainability and Operational Excellence

Deependra Sharma, CEO of Montra Electric Last-Mile Mobility, emphasized the broader vision behind the initiative:

"Sustainability is not just about our products; it’s embedded in how we work and the choices we make. By adopting smarter logistics, we have reduced lead times significantly, delivering vehicles faster while lowering our environmental footprint. This reflects our commitment to clean mobility, operational excellence, and greater customer value."

Sharma highlighted that integrating rail logistics is a critical step toward building a greener and smarter EV ecosystem in India, balancing operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.

Super Auto: Designed for Performance and Durability

The Montra Electric Super Auto is a high-performance vehicle tailored for last-mile mobility solutions. It boasts:

  • Top speed: 55 km/h

  • Peak power output: 10 kW

  • Range: 160 km per charge

The vehicle is equipped with LED headlights, radial tubeless tires, and a fully metal body reinforced with a sturdy Boron steel chassis for durability and safety. The Super Auto’s design supports intensive urban usage, offering reliability for both personal and commercial mobility.

Expanding Footprint Across India

Montra Electric’s Super Auto is currently available in over 110 exclusive showrooms nationwide and continues to expand rapidly. By integrating rail-based logistics, the company can meet rising demand efficiently, particularly in regions with high urban congestion or seasonal surges.

This strategic shift also aligns with broader industry trends, as the EV sector increasingly explores multimodal logistics solutions to enhance distribution, reduce delivery time, and meet growing sustainability mandates.

Environmental and Operational Impact

The rail shipment initiative is significant not just for speed and cost efficiency but also for environmental sustainability. By reducing highway transport reliance, Montra Electric has avoided thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions, contributing to cleaner mobility.

Moreover, minimizing customer wait times during high-demand periods enhances overall user experience while easing road traffic congestion in heavily traveled corridors.

Industry Context and Future Outlook

India’s EV market is projected to grow rapidly over the next decade, driven by government incentives, urban congestion challenges, and rising demand for last-mile electric mobility solutions. Companies like Montra Electric, which integrate sustainable logistics with product innovation, are likely to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of green transportation networks.

The Siliguri initiative represents a blueprint for other EV manufacturers considering rail-based distribution, showcasing how operational efficiency and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand.
