Neemuch-Ratlam Railway Line Doubling Project to Complete by Dec 2025

Post by : Meena Rani

The railway authorities have announced that the doubling of the railway line between Neemuch and Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by December 2025. This project aims to increase the capacity of both passenger and freight transport, providing faster and more efficient rail services to the region.

Project Overview

The Neemuch-Ratlam railway line doubling is part of a larger initiative to improve rail connectivity in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The total stretch of this railway line is approximately 133 kilometers, connecting the important towns of Neemuch and Ratlam. The doubling of the track will allow trains to travel in both directions simultaneously, which will significantly reduce waiting times for trains and improve overall efficiency.

The project has been allocated a total budget of nearly ₹1,100 crore. The investment includes laying new tracks, strengthening existing tracks, constructing new bridges, and upgrading railway stations along the route. Once completed, the railway line will meet modern standards and cater to the increasing demand for faster and more frequent train services.

Progress of Construction

According to railway officials, about 72% of the work has already been completed. The construction has been carried out in phases, with major progress observed between Daloda and Dhodhar, where approximately 20 kilometers of the new double track have been successfully laid. Trial runs on these sections have already been conducted, and the results have been promising, showing that the new tracks are ready for safe and efficient train operations.

The project also involves the installation of modern signaling systems and automatic train control mechanisms to enhance safety and reduce the chances of accidents. In addition, stations along the route are being upgraded with better waiting areas, improved platforms, and modern facilities for passengers.

Timeline and Completion

Railway authorities have set the target to complete the project by December 2025. However, considering the speed of construction and the smooth progress in most sections, there is a possibility that the project could be completed slightly earlier, potentially by November 2025.

Once the doubling of the line is completed, trains running on the Neemuch-Ratlam route will benefit from increased speed and punctuality. This will be particularly advantageous for express and superfast trains that carry passengers to and from major cities.

Benefits for Passengers

The completion of the double railway line will bring significant benefits to passengers. Currently, trains on this single line often face delays due to crossing traffic, which leads to longer travel times. With the doubled track, trains will be able to move simultaneously in both directions, reducing waiting periods and ensuring faster journeys.

Moreover, the improved rail infrastructure will provide passengers with smoother rides and more reliable schedules. Additional express trains can be introduced, and local commuters will experience shorter travel times between towns and cities along the route.

Impact on Freight Transport

The project is not only beneficial for passengers but also plays a crucial role in boosting freight transport. With a doubled track, goods trains can operate without waiting for passenger trains to pass, which will increase the efficiency of transporting agricultural produce, industrial products, and other goods.

This enhanced freight capacity will also reduce logistics costs for businesses and improve the supply chain within the region. Local industries in Neemuch, Ratlam, and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from faster and more reliable rail transport for raw materials and finished products.

Economic and Regional Development

The doubling of the Neemuch-Ratlam railway line is expected to have a positive impact on regional development. Better rail connectivity often attracts new businesses and encourages industrial growth. The project will provide opportunities for employment during the construction phase and create indirect economic benefits in the region once operational.

Improved railway infrastructure can also enhance tourism in the area. Travelers who previously avoided long or delayed journeys may now choose to visit towns along this route, promoting local businesses, hotels, and cultural attractions.

Key Features of the Project

  • Length: Approximately 133 kilometers

  • Budget: ₹1,100 crore

  • Completion Target: December 2025

  • Major Benefit: Increased capacity for both passenger and freight transport

  • Additional Features: Modern signaling systems, upgraded stations, and better passenger facilities

The doubling of the Neemuch-Ratlam railway line is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Madhya Pradesh. Once completed, it will enhance passenger convenience, strengthen freight transport, and contribute to the economic development of the region. With steady progress and careful planning, railway authorities are confident that the project will be completed on time, paving the way for a modern and efficient rail network in central India.

This project reflects the government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure and connecting key towns in Madhya Pradesh, making travel faster, safer, and more comfortable for both passengers and goods carriers.
