Nine Dead and 29 Injured in Blast at Police Station in Kashmir

Post by : Sameer Saifi

At least nine people were killed and 29 others injured in a powerful explosion at a police station in the Indian part of Kashmir late on Friday, police sources said. Most of the victims were policemen, including forensic officers who were examining confiscated explosives at the station. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Police sources said that the blast was very strong. “The identification of bodies is underway, as some have been completely burnt,” one source said. The explosion was so powerful that some body parts were found in nearby houses, about 100 to 200 meters away from the police station.

The explosion happened at the Nowgam police station. A local police official said that the blast caused a fire to spread across the compound. Firefighters were quickly sent to control the fire. The police chief of the Jammu and Kashmir region is expected to hold a press conference soon to provide more details about the incident.

This blast comes just four days after a deadly car explosion in New Delhi killed at least eight people. Indian authorities have described the New Delhi attack as a terror incident.

Kashmir has been a region of conflict for decades. India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed countries, have fought several wars over the area. Each country claims the entire region but only controls part of it. The latest blast highlights the continuing dangers in this disputed region, where security forces face daily threats.

The tragedy has left families and colleagues mourning the loss of brave policemen and workers who were serving the public. Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion and will likely take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The explosion in Kashmir adds to concerns about safety in India, especially for law enforcement personnel who deal with explosives and terrorist threats regularly. It also reminds people of the long-standing tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, a conflict that continues to affect the lives of many.

The local administration and security forces are now working to secure the area, help the injured, and support the families of the victims. The incident has drawn attention across India and the world, highlighting the risks faced by those who protect communities in conflict regions.
