Northern Railway Runs Special Trains Amid Heavy Rain in Jammu

Post by : Bandan Preet

In recent days, the Jammu region has witnessed heavy rainfall, which has led to severe flooding and disruption of normal rail services. To ensure that passengers stranded due to these unforeseen conditions could reach their destinations safely, Northern Railway took immediate steps to provide assistance. On Thursday, two special trains were operated from Jammu Tawi railway station to transport passengers to major cities while prioritizing their safety and comfort.

Special Trains Launched for Stranded Passengers

The first special train was arranged to carry approximately 1,400 passengers from Jammu Tawi to Varanasi, a journey that typically covers several states and spans a long distance. Meanwhile, a second special train was organized to transport nearly 1,200 passengers to New Delhi, the national capital.

The decision to operate these special trains was taken by Northern Railway authorities after careful consideration of the heavy rainfall and the need to provide uninterrupted assistance to passengers whose travel plans had been affected.

Focus on Passenger Safety and Comfort

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Paramdeep Singh Saini, emphasized that the railway administration places the safety and convenience of passengers as its top priority, especially in emergency situations like floods or extreme weather conditions. He stated that Northern Railway is fully committed to helping passengers even during disaster situations, ensuring that they can reach their destinations safely and without additional stress.

To make the journey comfortable, several special arrangements were made along the route. At major stations like Jalandhar Cantt and Ludhiana, additional support was provided in the form of food and refreshments. These services were coordinated with the help of commercial inspectors, station staff, ticket checking teams, and catering staff of the Ferozepur Division.

These arrangements were designed to ensure that passengers did not face inconvenience during the journey and could travel safely despite the ongoing adverse weather conditions.

Challenges Posed by Heavy Rainfall

The Jammu region has been experiencing unusually heavy rainfall over the past few days, which has caused localized flooding and disruption of normal railway traffic. Such extreme weather conditions often make it difficult for regular trains to operate on schedule. Rail tracks may get waterlogged, and certain sections may become unsafe for train movement.

During these challenging times, the prompt action of Northern Railway ensured that passengers were not left stranded at the station for long periods. The quick organization of special trains is a reflection of the administration's commitment to passenger welfare and emergency preparedness.

Coordination Among Railway Staff

The successful operation of these special trains was made possible due to the coordinated efforts of multiple teams within the Northern Railway. From station staff who managed passenger boarding to ticket checking teams who ensured smooth operations, every step was carefully planned.

The catering teams played a crucial role in providing refreshments and meals at key stations. This not only kept passengers comfortable but also ensured that basic needs were met during the long journeys. By combining the efforts of these teams, Northern Railway was able to maintain a high standard of service even under challenging circumstances.

Importance of Special Arrangements

Special arrangements like these are essential during times of natural disasters or severe weather conditions. They help to:

  • Ensure passenger safety by providing organized travel options.

  • Prevent passengers from being stranded at stations or in unsafe areas.

  • Offer food and essential services to maintain comfort during long journeys.

  • Showcase the railway administration's commitment to public service during emergencies.

By focusing on these aspects, Northern Railway has demonstrated a human-centered approach, prioritizing the well-being of passengers over all other operational challenges.

Statement from Railway Authorities

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Paramdeep Singh Saini highlighted that Northern Railway's primary concern is always passenger safety and comfort. He assured the public that the railway administration would continue to take necessary measures to provide relief and assistance in times of natural calamities, including floods, storms, and heavy rainfall.

Saini mentioned that special trains like the ones operated from Jammu Tawi are an emergency response measure. They are meant to help stranded passengers reach their destinations safely, ensuring that no passenger faces unnecessary difficulties during travel disruptions.

Role of Passengers During Floods

While railway authorities take every precaution, passengers are also advised to remain vigilant during extreme weather conditions. Travelers are encouraged to:

  • Follow railway announcements regarding train schedules and special services.

  • Arrive at stations early to avoid last-minute rushes.

  • Cooperate with railway staff during boarding and while traveling on special trains.

This cooperation ensures that emergency measures, such as special trains, can operate efficiently and safely.

The operation of special trains by Northern Railway from Jammu Tawi during heavy rainfall and floods is an example of effective disaster management and passenger service. By arranging transport to major destinations like Varanasi and New Delhi, providing food and refreshments, and ensuring safety at every step, the railway authorities have shown dedication to public welfare.

Northern Railway's actions during this challenging period reflect a long-standing commitment to passenger service and emergency preparedness. Passengers traveling through affected regions can take comfort in knowing that the railway administration prioritizes their safety, convenience, and comfort above all else.

Through these measures, the railway continues to uphold its responsibility to the public and reinforces the importance of coordinated action during times of natural disasters. It is a reminder that even in challenging times, essential services like the railway remain steadfast in their duty to ensure safe and comfortable travel for all passengers.
