Stuttgart | June 2025 — The all-new Porsche Macan EV is making headlines once again, this time for how it performs where it matters most: on the open road. A recent independent highway range test of the Macan EV has revealed promising real-world results, showing that the luxury electric SUV holds up impressively well during sustained speeds of 70–80 mph — the kind of driving conditions that push EV efficiency to its limits.
The test, conducted by Kyle Conner of Out of Spec Reviews, involved a Macan 4 EV with the optional Performance Battery Plus and 21-inch wheels. It was driven on a highway loop at a consistent speed between 70 and 75 mph — a method meant to simulate realistic driving rather than ideal lab conditions. Despite these energy-demanding parameters, the Macan EV delivered a tested range of 255 miles, just slightly below its official EPA rating of 278 miles.
The Macan EV averaged 3.1 miles per kWh, putting it in the upper tier of premium electric SUVs tested at highway speeds. Conner praised the vehicle for its efficiency given its size, performance specs, and luxury orientation.
“This is quite good for a dual-motor performance SUV with wide tires and a big battery,” he noted, pointing out that many EVs tend to lose significant range at higher cruising speeds — something the Macan EV manages well.
The Macan’s aerodynamic design, 100 kWh battery pack (95 kWh usable), and optimized drivetrain appear to contribute significantly to its road-trip readiness.
Porsche has long been known for blending performance with engineering precision, and the electric Macan appears to carry that DNA into the EV space. With dual motors, all-wheel drive, and a 0–60 mph time under 5 seconds, the Macan EV is no slouch. Yet it still maintains energy efficiency and comfort in real-world highway driving — a key metric for buyers looking to replace or upgrade from gas-powered SUVs.
The Performance Battery Plus is optional, but as this test shows, it's likely worth the upgrade for drivers prioritizing highway range or regular long-distance travel.
Real-world range testing has become a critical consideration for EV buyers who are increasingly aware of the gap between lab-rated and on-the-road results. Porsche's EVs — both the Taycan and now the Macan — have faced scrutiny in the past for having lower EPA figures than competitors, but often outperform expectations in independent testing.
This latest highway test confirms that the Macan EV can comfortably support road trips, even for drivers cruising at speeds well above city averages.
The Macan EV supports 800-volt charging architecture, allowing for rapid charging up to 270 kW at compatible DC fast chargers. This ensures that even if drivers do push the battery on long trips, recharging can be done quickly — often in under 25 minutes from 10% to 80%.
Combined with its tested range and charging speed, the Macan EV looks to be one of the more versatile luxury EVs on the market in 2025.
