A private jet crashed and burst into flames while taking off from Bangor International Airport in the U.S. state of Maine, raising serious concerns about the safety of those on board. The aircraft, a twin-engine Bombardier Challenger 600, was carrying eight people at the time of the accident. Their condition and identities were not immediately confirmed by authorities.
The crash happened at around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The jet caught fire soon after impact, and officials said there was a significant blaze at the scene. Emergency crews responded quickly as thick smoke and flames were reported near the runway.
Weather conditions were difficult at the time of the crash. Light snow had begun falling at the airport, and a winter storm warning was in effect across most of Maine, including the Bangor area. However, officials have not yet said whether weather played a role in the accident.
The aircraft had earlier arrived in Maine from Texas. Records show the jet entered service in April 2020 and was registered to a company based in Houston. Investigators have not suggested any link between the owner and the cause of the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration has announced a full investigation to determine what went wrong during takeoff. Such investigations usually examine weather, aircraft condition, pilot actions, and runway conditions.
This incident highlights the risks involved in aviation, especially during winter conditions. As authorities work to uncover the facts, the focus remains on the safety of those on board and preventing similar accidents in the future.
