Scania has announced plans to deliver its first fully electric city and suburban buses to Norway, with the fleet scheduled to enter service in Vestfold in summer 2026. This marks Scania’s entry into the Norwegian e-bus market and supports Tide Buss’s initiative to operate a zero-emission public transport network in the region.
Scania Electric Buses for Tide Buss
The order comprises 41 two-axle buses, each 12.2 meters long, featuring 39 fixed seats, three foldable seats, and standing room. All vehicles will have dual doors at the front and mid-section. Scania will produce the chassis and driveline, while bodywork will be supplied by longtime partner Higer, known for its Scania Touring coaches in Norway.
Built on Scania’s modular electric bus platform, each bus will be powered by a 230 kW electric motor with a two-speed gearbox. Energy will be drawn from five battery packs totaling 520 kWh—four mounted on the roof and one at the rear floor level—allowing customization based on operational needs.
Largest Tide Buss Award to Date
The Vestfold contract is part of Tide Buss’s largest award to date, covering 11.2 million kilometers over ten years, with around 235 electric buses and 420 employees involved. Scania will also provide service and maintenance for the new buses at its Borgeskogen facility.
Jon Eystein Lund, Sales Director at Norsk Scania, said: “We are delighted to deliver the first electric Scania buses in Norway and to have signed agreements with Tide Buss for both delivery and service and maintenance.”
