SiTime TimeFabric Improves AI Data Speed and Accuracy

Post by : Ramanpreet Kaur

A company in California called SiTime Corporation has introduced a new software system named TimeFabric™. This new software is designed to make internet networks, mobile networks, and data centers work better and faster. It can also help when there are power or signal failures by keeping systems running without interruptions for up to 24 hours.

SiTime is already known for making small but important parts called oscillators and clocks that help machines and devices keep time very accurately. With the launch of TimeFabric, they are now adding software to their list of tools, making their technology even stronger.

What Is TimeFabric?

TimeFabric is a new kind of software created by SiTime. It works together with the company’s hardware (oscillators and clocks) to give computers and networks better time accuracy. In simpler words, it helps all machines and systems stay on the same exact time so they can work together without mistakes or delays.

This is especially important for big systems like:

  • AI data centers
  • 5G mobile towers
  • Smart routers and switches
  • Government and military networks

Without accurate timing, these systems can slow down, crash, or stop working during emergencies.

How Accurate Is It?

SiTime says that TimeFabric is 9 times more accurate than older systems that use quartz-based timing technology. Quartz clocks are common but can fail under extreme temperatures or power problems. SiTime’s technology uses MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), which are stronger and more reliable.

This kind of timing is very important in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • High-speed internet services
  • Banking and financial systems
  • Air traffic and smart cities

Two Main Parts of TimeFabric

The TimeFabric software has two important parts:

1. IEEE 1588 Synchronization Module

This part follows a global rule called IEEE 1588, also known as the Precision Time Protocol (PTP). It helps different machines in a network stay in perfect time with each other, even down to a sub-nanosecond (which is a billionth of a second). This kind of timing allows networks to work faster and more efficiently.

2. Holdover Extension Module

This part helps the system stay running smoothly even when the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) or the main network clock fails. It keeps everything working for up to 24 hours without needing an outside signal. This is very useful during emergencies, like power outages or satellite failures.

Where Can TimeFabric Be Used?

TimeFabric is made for both current and future technology. It can work in:

  • AI Data Centers – For SmartNICs, routers, and processors.
  • 5G Networks – For base stations, antennas, and radio towers.
  • Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) – High-speed internet in rural areas.
  • Military and Secure Systems – Where stable timing is a matter of national security.
  • Cloud services and smart homes – That rely on fast internet and real-time responses.

What Makes TimeFabric Special?

Here are some of the key features of TimeFabric:

  • Compliant with IEEE 1588-2019 Standards
  • Sub-nanosecond timing accuracy
  • 24-hour holdover with selected SiTime devices (SiT5811, SiT5812, SiT7101)
  • Support for hardware time-stamping
  • Advanced management tools for network engineers
  • Easy software upgrades in the field (no hardware change needed)

All these features make TimeFabric a complete solution for businesses and telecom operators who want faster internet, better uptime, and stable services even in tough environments.

Why Is This Important?

Modern networks, especially those supporting AI, mobile data, or cloud computing, need accurate and reliable timing. If the timing is wrong:

  • Data gets lost or delayed
  • Services slow down
  • Customers get poor experience
  • Systems can even shut down

By using TimeFabric, companies can keep their systems running smoothly, safely, and faster, even during tough times like satellite failures or network issues.

What Does SiTime Say?

Rajesh Vashist, the CEO of SiTime, said that this new software shows the company’s commitment to solving complex timing problems. He added:

“With TimeFabric, SiTime is giving customers everything they need—hardware and software—to make their products more reliable, faster, and longer lasting.”

The company believes that TimeFabric will help customers save time, reduce system errors, and launch their products to market faster.

When Is It Available?

TimeFabric is already available. It works with several of SiTime’s popular products, including:

  • OCXOs (Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillators)
  • TCXOs (Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillators)
  • Network Synchronizers

The launch of TimeFabric by SiTime marks a big step in the world of technology. It offers a complete timing solution that is much more accurate and dependable than older systems. As our world becomes more connected—through AI, 5G, cloud services, and smart devices—this kind of tool will be essential.

With TimeFabric, SiTime is showing that it wants to lead the future of reliable and precise timing in a simple and smart way. Whether it's powering your internet or helping machines in a hospital work together, TimeFabric is built to make everything run on time—even during a crisis.
