Systra India To Study Feasibility Of Water Metro Systems In 20 Cities

Post by : Meena Rani

Systra India has been selected to explore the feasibility of introducing water metro systems in 18 to 20 cities across India. These water-based transport systems aim to improve urban travel by using rivers, lakes, and canals efficiently. The success of the Kochi Water Metro has inspired this project, showing how water transport can connect cities quickly and safely while reducing traffic on roads.

Scope of the Feasibility Study

The study will examine several key factors, including the number of people who would use water metros, the travel patterns of commuters, and the economic benefits for the local area. It will also identify the best routes, plan terminals, and suggest operational methods that work well with existing urban transport systems. The study will ensure that water metros provide reliable and convenient services for citizens.

Environmental Considerations

One major focus of the study is to minimize the impact on the environment. Water metro systems are designed to be eco-friendly, helping to reduce pollution, traffic congestion, and carbon emissions. The goal is to create transport solutions that are sustainable and support cleaner, greener cities.

Strategic Planning and Implementation

Systra India will help plan routes and design terminals that make commuting easier for citizens. Their work will also include technical and strategic advice to ensure water metros are integrated smoothly with other urban transport options like buses and metros. The planning will focus on safety, efficiency, and convenience.

Systra’s Experience in Urban Transport

Systra India has vast experience in urban mobility projects. They are already working as the main consultant for Kochi Metro’s second phase. Recently, they signed an agreement with Vizag Metro to assist in planning, designing, and supervising the construction of the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project. Their expertise ensures that water metros will be planned carefully to meet city needs.
