The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has become the first public transport corporation in India to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) across its operations. The initiative is designed to enhance commuter convenience, optimise fleet deployment, improve operational efficiency, and boost employee welfare.
Strategic Partnership for AI Implementation
TGSRTC has partnered with Hansa Equity Partners LLP to drive the AI integration across all depots. The firm is providing technical expertise, strategic planning, and specialised training for TGSRTC’s technology team, ensuring seamless execution of the project.
AI for Employee Health and Productivity
As part of the Grand Health Challenge, AI and machine learning tools are being used to analyse medical reports of over 40,000 employees. The system identifies potential health risks and promotes preventive care.
A pilot program conducted in six depots was successful, leading to a corporation-wide rollout. The initiative aims to improve crew productivity, workforce well-being, and overall operational efficiency.
Smarter Scheduling for Commuter Convenience
TGSRTC is set to introduce AI-driven, demand-based scheduling of bus services. The models will analyse traffic patterns, festivals, weekly trends, and passenger demand to optimise fleet deployment.
This move is expected to maximise resource utilisation, reduce operational wastage, and provide faster, more commuter-friendly services.
Operational Efficiency and Cost Management
Beyond scheduling, AI will be used to monitor employee performance, streamline operations, and reduce operational costs. By adopting these technologies, TGSRTC aims to deliver faster and more accurate services to passengers.
A detailed AI implementation presentation was recently made to Transport & BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at the Dr BR Ambedkar Secretariat in Hyderabad. The Minister praised the initiative for its transformative potential and felicitated Trinadha Babu and Suneel Regulla of Hansa Equity Partners LLP for their contributions under CSR initiatives.
Strategic Leap Towards Modernisation
The AI project builds on the Strategic Deployment Plan (SDP) initiated in 2021, which has helped TGSRTC modernise passenger services, drive digital transformation, and strengthen financial sustainability.
Managing Director VC Sajjanar, IPS, said AI adoption is a strategic leap forward that will enhance speed, transparency, and service accuracy. Smart scheduling will enable the corporation to meet dynamic passenger needs while setting a national benchmark for public transport innovation.
