Trump Announces ‘Trump-Class’ Battleships for US Navy’s New Golden Fleet

Post by : Saif

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to add a new type of heavily armed warship to the United States Navy, calling them “Trump-class” battleships. These vessels will be part of what he described as the Navy’s future “Golden Fleet,” a program aimed at restoring American naval strength and expanding the country’s military presence at sea.

The announcement was made during a press conference at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. Senior government officials were present, including Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Posters showing the design of the new warship were displayed at the event, highlighting its massive size and advanced weapons.

Trump said that as many as 25 Trump-class ships could be built, with construction expected to begin immediately. Navy Secretary John Phelan confirmed that the first ship will be named the USS Defiant. According to officials, the ship is designed to be one of the largest surface warships in the US Navy. It is expected to be about 880 feet long, displace roughly 35,000 tons of water, and carry a crew of up to 850 sailors.

Battleships once played a major role in naval warfare during the early 20th century. Over time, they were replaced by aircraft carriers, submarines, and missile-based systems. Trump said the new Trump-class ships would bring back the idea of the battleship, but with modern technology that makes them far more powerful than older designs. He claimed the ships would return with “100 times the force and power.”

The weapons planned for the Trump-class ships are highly advanced and, in some cases, still under development. One of the main features is a powerful railgun mounted on the front of the ship. This weapon uses electricity to fire a solid projectile at extreme speed, destroying targets through kinetic energy rather than explosive force. The ship is also expected to carry additional five-inch guns designed to fire high-speed projectiles.

The Navy said the ship will include launch systems for hypersonic missiles under the Conventional Prompt Strike program. These missiles can travel at more than five times the speed of sound and are capable of striking distant targets in a very short time. Such weapons are difficult to detect and intercept, making them a key part of future military strategy. While the United States has not officially deployed these missiles yet, development and testing have been ongoing.

Another major feature mentioned is the Sea-Launched Cruise Missile–Nuclear, known as SLCM-N. This system is still in development and has been approved by Congress. It would allow the Navy to launch tactical nuclear weapons from surface ships. These weapons have a smaller explosive yield than strategic nuclear missiles but are still extremely destructive.

The announcement has drawn both attention and questions. Military experts note that many of the systems described are still being tested and have not yet been fully proven in real-world operations. Building such large and complex ships would also require major funding and long-term commitment from the US government.

Supporters of the plan say the Trump-class battleships would send a strong message to rivals such as China and Russia, showing that the US is serious about maintaining naval dominance. Critics argue that modern warfare relies more on submarines, cyber systems, drones, and aircraft carriers rather than large surface battleships.

Even so, the Trump-class announcement reflects a broader vision of military strength and national pride. The Golden Fleet plan is being presented as a symbol of renewed American power at sea. Whether these ships move from concept to reality will depend on future decisions by Congress, the Pentagon, and future administrations.
