Trump ends 52-year ban on supersonic flights over U.S. land

President Donald Trump has signed an important order to remove the 52-year-old ban on flying supersonic planes over land in the United States. Supersonic planes fly faster than the speed of sound. The order also asks the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to make new rules that balance what communities find acceptable, what is fair for businesses, and what technology can achieve. These rules will help bring back legal supersonic flights over land.

The order aims to make the U.S. the world leader again in fast air travel. It updates old rules and encourages new technology, helping engineers and companies create the next generation of airplanes. These new planes will be faster, quieter, safer, and more efficient than ever before.

Before this, a group of Republican senators tried to pass a law to do the same thing, but this order makes that law unnecessary. Some private companies have been working hard to bring back supersonic flights. They have focused on solving the problem of the loud sonic boom — the loud noise planes make when they break the sound barrier. One company called Boom Supersonic has been testing its planes under special permission from the FAA. Their tests show that by adjusting the speed and flight path, the loud boom does not reach the ground.

The ban on supersonic flights over land will be lifted with temporary rules by early September. After that, the FAA will take 18 months to create permanent rules to allow supersonic flights again. This is a big step toward faster and better air travel in the future.
