German shipowner Vogemann is reportedly making another major move in its fleet building strategy, having linked to an order for six Kamsarmax bulk carriers at Hengli Heavy Industries in Dalian. According to shipbroking and market sources, the vessels are expected to be around 82,000 deadweight tons each, with deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028, and each ship estimated to cost around USD 35 million.
This potential new order would build on Vogemann’s existing relationship with Hengli Heavy, which already includes both Kamsarmax and Capesize bulk carriers. Vogemann has also diversified its orders across other ship types such as Handysize bulkers at different Chinese yards, reflecting its broader strategy to strengthen its dry bulk fleet across different vessel sizes.
If the deal is finalized, Vogemann’s Kamsarmax series at Hengli would climb to ten ships in total, enhancing its standing among European shipowners active with the yard that used to be STX Dalian. The decision comes amid a period when bulk carrier newbuilding contracts have been relatively sparse, making Vogemann’s commitment stand out in the current market.
Shipbuilding insiders view this as a reaffirmation of China’s Hengli Heavy yard’s ability to attract large foreign orders, especially for bulk tonnage. For Vogemann, locking in these newbuilds offers a degree of predictability and supply assurance in what has been a volatile environment for the shipping industry.
