Zelenskiy Questions Pressure on Ukraine as New Peace Talks Approach

Post by : Saif

Ukraine’s president has raised concern about how current peace efforts are being shaped, saying that the United States is too often asking Ukraine to make concessions instead of putting equal pressure on Russia. His remarks came during a major international security gathering, just days before another round of planned talks meant to reduce the conflict.

He said he still hopes the coming negotiations will be serious and useful, but he warned that the discussions sometimes feel unbalanced. According to him, the focus often returns to what Ukraine should give up, while far less is said about what Russia should concede. He suggested that this creates doubt about whether the process is fair.

The Ukrainian leader explained that his country wants peace but not at any cost. He said a deal must protect national security, independence, and the rights of citizens. He added that rushed agreements can create bigger problems later if the root causes of the conflict are not solved properly.

New talks are expected to take place soon in Geneva, following earlier meetings held in other locations. Those earlier rounds were described by officials as constructive, but they did not produce any major breakthroughs. Fighting and political tension have continued despite the diplomatic contacts.

He also shared that he feels some pressure from the American side to move quickly toward a settlement. While he welcomed continued U.S. involvement and support, he said negotiations should not be shaped by pressure on only one side. In his view, both sides in a conflict must be asked to take real steps if peace is to last.

Another concern he raised is that European countries are not playing a large enough role in the current negotiation structure. He argued that Europe is directly affected by the war and should be more deeply involved in shaping the outcome. A wider group of partners, he suggested, could help produce a stronger and more stable agreement.

Experts often say that successful peace deals require balance, verification, and long-term guarantees. Agreements made too quickly or without equal responsibility can break down. That is why many observers believe the details of any deal are more important than the speed at which it is signed.

The upcoming talks are expected to include senior representatives from both sides. Changes in negotiation teams and styles could also affect how discussions unfold. Past meetings have sometimes been criticized for focusing on political messaging instead of practical solutions. This time, there is pressure on all participants to show real progress.

For ordinary people affected by the conflict, the main hope is simple: less violence and more stability. But leaders face a difficult task. They must try to stop the fighting while also protecting national interests and future security. That balance is never easy to achieve.

The next round of diplomacy will show whether the current effort can move beyond general statements and produce concrete steps. The Ukrainian position remains clear — peace is welcome, but it must be fair, shared, and secure for the future.
