Amazon Expands Logistics Services for Multi-Platform Sellers

Post by : Meena Rani

Amazon has expanded its logistics operations to support sellers not only on its own marketplace but also across other e-commerce platforms, including Walmart, Shopify, and SHEIN. Through its Supply Chain by Amazon program, the company now provides integrated solutions covering international freight, customs clearance, warehousing, and fulfillment, positioning itself as a multi-platform logistics provider.

In 2025 alone, over 5 billion products moved through Amazon’s logistics network, utilized by more than 600,000 independent sellers worldwide. For logistics professionals, this expansion signifies Amazon’s growing influence as a service provider, extending far beyond traditional e-commerce retail.

An Integrated, End-to-End Supply Chain Model

Amazon’s supply chain tools allow sellers to manage product flow from manufacturing sites directly to customers. The integrated system includes several key components:

Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD):

Sellers can store inventory near manufacturing centers and ship products to destination countries as needed. This reduces domestic storage costs and allows sellers to respond quickly to market demand. Early trials indicate that this approach shortens fulfillment timelines by several days.

Amazon Global Logistics (AGL):

Expanded shipping routes link major manufacturing regions with key consumer markets. These improvements help reduce delivery times and minimize reliance on third-party freight coordinators, ensuring a smoother and faster supply chain.

AI-Enhanced Customs Clearance:

Amazon’s AI-driven tools automatically pre-fill customs documents, classify goods, and flag potential issues. This automation reduces manual work and helps avoid delays during border processing, particularly for international shipments.

Automation Across the Supply Chain

Amazon’s platform automates many steps that sellers traditionally manage themselves. Demand forecasting tools predict upcoming trends, while scheduling systems coordinate storage and transportation across regions and modes of shipment.

During peak sales periods like Black Friday or seasonal events, sellers can strategically position inventory in advance, lowering the need for expedited shipping. These efficiencies enhance product availability and can improve conversion rates for faster delivery options.

Multi-Channel Fulfillment for Other Platforms

Amazon’s Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) service now extends to Walmart, Shopify, SHEIN, and other platforms. Sellers can manage inventory for multiple marketplaces through a single system, leveraging Amazon’s infrastructure for picking, packing, and shipping.

This shared inventory approach can reduce stockouts and improve turnover rates. Sellers using both FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) and MCF have reported noticeable improvements in product availability and fulfillment consistency.

Implications for Logistics Professionals

The expansion of Amazon’s logistics services presents several considerations for operations teams:

  • Integrated Services Simplify Coordination: Managing freight, customs, storage, and fulfillment on a single platform reduces administrative overhead and streamlines operations.

  • Strategic Inventory Placement: Regional staging allows sellers to position products near demand centers, reducing last-mile delivery times and optimizing fulfillment efficiency.

  • AI Adoption in Logistics: From customs processing to predictive demand analytics, automation is increasingly central to modern supply chain management.

  • Platform-as-a-Service Model: Amazon’s logistics infrastructure is now available to a broader range of sellers and platforms. While it may not suit every business, companies with international or multi-channel operations can benefit from this turnkey solution.

For logistics professionals, Amazon’s expansion illustrates a shifting service landscape, where platform providers increasingly offer end-to-end logistics solutions. This trend carries implications for inventory strategy, transport planning, and partnerships with third-party logistics providers.
