A recent public survey shows that most Americans do not agree with President Donald Trump’s idea of bringing Greenland under U.S. control. The plan has raised concerns across the country, with many people saying it could harm peace and damage relations with close allies.
Only a small group of Americans support the idea. Less than one in five people said they approve of Trump’s efforts linked to Greenland. A much larger number said they oppose it, while others said they are unsure. Overall, public support for the plan appears weak.
Greenland is a large island in the Arctic that has long been connected to Denmark. Trump has said the island is important for national security because of its location and natural resources. He has warned that global rivals could try to gain influence there in the future.
However, many Americans are uneasy about pressuring Denmark, which is a trusted partner of the United States. A majority of people said they fear the plan could hurt ties with Europe and weaken cooperation with allies.
Strong resistance appears when the idea of force is raised. Very few Americans believe the United States should use military power to take Greenland. Most people say such action would be dangerous and unnecessary. This opinion is shared by both major political groups.
The survey also shows that some people are still learning about the issue. Around one in five respondents said they had not heard much about the plan. But among those who knew about it, opposition was far more common than support.
Many Americans remain cautious because of past wars that caused heavy losses and long-term problems. While Trump has often spoken about avoiding new wars, voters seem clear that they do not want the country pulled into new conflicts over territory.
Leaders in Denmark and Greenland have both said the island is not for sale and that its future should be decided peacefully. These statements have strengthened public belief that the matter should be handled through talks, not threats.
The survey collected views from people across the United States and reflects a clear public message. Americans prefer calm diplomacy, strong alliances, and respect for other nations’ rights.
As debate continues, the public mood remains steady. Most Americans do not support bold actions over Greenland and want their leaders to focus on cooperation rather than confrontation.
