British Airways Launches Student Travel Help for India Flights

British Airways has introduced a special service called the ‘Student Travel Assistance’ programme for students flying from India to the United Kingdom. This new initiative is designed to help students travelling to London Heathrow from five major Indian cities during the summer months. Starting from August 29, 2025, this programme will continue until the end of October 2025.

The airports covered under this programme include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Through this service, students will receive extra guidance and support, making their travel experience smoother, more comfortable, and less stressful, especially for those travelling abroad for the first time.

Purpose of the Programme

Studying abroad is an exciting journey, but it can also be overwhelming for students, particularly those travelling internationally for the first time. British Airways’ Student Travel Assistance programme is aimed at helping students feel more confident and at ease throughout their journey.

The airline stated that the service will guide students from the moment they arrive at the Indian airport until they reach their destination at London Heathrow Airport, Terminal 5. The goal is to reduce the confusion and anxiety that can sometimes accompany long-haul travel.

Helen O’Connor, the Regional General Manager for Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific Airport at British Airways, said: “We hope this makes them feel at ease from the moment they arrive to when they land in their destination, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”

What the Student Travel Assistance Includes

The programme includes several helpful services for students:

  1. Dedicated Check-in Desk – Students flying with British Airways can access a special check-in counter at their airport. This desk is staffed by airline personnel who are trained to assist young travellers, ensuring that the check-in process is smooth and fast.

  2. Wayfinding Support at Indian Airports – Many students may not be familiar with airport procedures or layouts. Staff will guide students through security, immigration, and other formalities, making it easier for them to reach their departure gate.

  3. Transfer Guidance at Heathrow Airport – Upon arrival in London, students will also receive support in navigating Heathrow’s Terminal 5. The staff will help them understand how to collect luggage, move through customs, and find connecting flights or transportation to their accommodation.

The Student Assistance Helpdesk is voluntary and open to all British Airways students travelling from India to the UK. Students simply need to identify themselves at the check-in counter to access this service. Airports will also display clear signage to guide students to the helpdesk.

Previous Initiatives by British Airways

This is not the first time British Airways has introduced initiatives to support Indian passengers. Earlier in 2025, the airline launched the ‘Meet and Assist’ service, which provides in-person support in local Indian languages. This service is particularly helpful for passengers who may find it difficult to navigate airports on their own.

The new Student Travel Assistance programme builds on this earlier service, focusing specifically on students and addressing the unique challenges they may face while travelling abroad.

Accessing the Student Travel Assistance programme is simple:

  1. Students must inform the check-in staff that they wish to use the student assistance service.

  2. The check-in staff will direct them to the dedicated student desk.

  3. Students will receive guidance through check-in, security, immigration, and boarding procedures.

  4. Upon arrival at Heathrow Terminal 5, staff will assist students in navigating the airport, collecting luggage, and understanding transportation options to their final destination.
