Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD recorded its second consecutive month of global sales growth in June 2026, supported by a sharp increase in overseas deliveries even as demand in China's domestic auto market remained under pressure.
The latest figures highlight BYD's growing international presence as the company continues expanding across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and other global markets.
BYD Sells More Than 403,000 Vehicles in June
According to the company's latest sales data, BYD delivered 403,472 vehicles worldwide in June, representing a 5.5% increase compared to the same month last year.
The growth follows a modest increase in May, marking the company's second straight month of rising sales after several months of declining year-on-year performance.
Exports Drive Global Growth
The biggest contributor to BYD's June performance was its rapidly expanding export business.
Overseas vehicle sales surged by nearly 95% year-on-year, reaching 175,349 units during the month.
The strong international demand helped offset weaker sales in China and reflects BYD's strategy of expanding into new global markets through competitive pricing, advanced battery technology, and a broader electric vehicle lineup.
China Market Remains Challenging
While exports continued to grow, BYD's domestic sales remained under pressure.
Vehicle sales within China declined by 22% compared with June last year, extending a period of slowing demand in the world's largest automobile market.
Industry analysts attribute the slowdown to reduced government incentives for electric vehicles, weaker consumer confidence, increased competition, and higher dealer inventories.
Expansion Plans Continue
BYD continues to strengthen its international footprint as it evaluates plans for a second manufacturing facility in Europe, following its investment in Hungary.
The company aims to increase production capacity closer to overseas customers while reducing logistics costs and supporting future export growth.
Long-Term Global Ambitions
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu has previously stated that the company aims to become the world's largest automaker within the next five years.
The company believes continued investment in battery innovation, fast-charging technology, and international expansion will help achieve that objective.
China's EV Industry Faces Growing Competition
BYD is operating in an increasingly competitive electric vehicle market. Several Chinese manufacturers continue to expand aggressively, while overall demand has slowed following subsidy reductions and broader economic challenges.
Industry forecasts suggest China's passenger vehicle market could decline this year, increasing pressure on manufacturers to rely more heavily on export markets for growth.
Despite these challenges, BYD remains one of the world's leading electric vehicle manufacturers and continues to strengthen its position through global expansion and technological innovation.
