Delhi Government on Alert After Supreme Court Orders Safety Measures

Post by : Saif

The Delhi government has gone into alert mode after the Supreme Court directed authorities to strengthen public transport and safety measures in the city. In response, the administration has increased the number of electric buses and stationed e-autos at metro stations to improve commuter convenience and reduce congestion.

This move comes as part of the government’s effort to ensure safe, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation for residents and daily commuters. By adding more e-buses on busy routes, authorities aim to reduce overcrowding on city roads and provide faster travel options. The deployment of e-autos at metro stations is designed to help passengers cover the “last mile,” making it easier to reach homes, offices, and other destinations.

The Delhi Transport Department has coordinated with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to ensure seamless operations. E-buses will run on high-demand routes during peak hours, while e-autos will be available for commuters arriving at or leaving metro stations. The government has also instructed transport officials to monitor traffic conditions and adjust services based on passenger demand.

Officials say this initiative will not only improve commuter safety but also support Delhi’s environmental goals. Electric vehicles produce zero emissions, helping reduce air pollution in the city, which has been a persistent concern for residents and authorities alike.

The Supreme Court’s directive emphasizes the need for proactive planning in urban transport, especially in large cities like Delhi. Authorities are expected to review operational efficiency, ensure vehicle maintenance, and provide timely updates to commuters. Public awareness campaigns have also been initiated to encourage the use of electric transport and highlight its benefits for safety and the environment.

Residents and daily commuters have welcomed the move, noting that additional e-buses and e-autos will save time, reduce waiting periods, and make public transport more comfortable. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate and follow safety rules while using these services.

With these steps, the Delhi government aims to create a safer, cleaner, and more efficient public transport system. The alert mode will continue until officials are satisfied that commuter needs are fully met and traffic conditions are under control.
