NEW DELHI: Train services on the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro, which runs from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, were affected on Monday after smoke was found in a technical room at the Trilokpuri-Sanjay Lake metro station. This caused damage to the signalling system and automatic fare collection machines, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.
Because of this, trains near the Trilokpuri-Sanjay Lake station had to slow down to 25 km/hour instead of the usual 40 km/hour. The problem started around 11:20 AM, and train services were controlled carefully on that small part of the Pink Line.
Anuj Dayal, a top DMRC official, said that except for this small section, trains on the rest of the Pink Line were running normally. He also mentioned that announcements were made regularly to keep passengers informed during the delay.
Later in the day, at 4:25 PM, DMRC said the situation had returned to normal. The smoke was cleared with the help of the Delhi Fire Service, and work was ongoing to fix the damaged signalling and fare collection systems.
DMRC thanked the fire service for their quick response and assured passengers that they are working to keep services safe and smooth.
