New Delhi Metro Station Closed as CJP Protest Disrupts Services in Central Delhi

Post by : Saif

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed New Delhi Metro Station until further notice due to security arrangements linked to the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.

In a post on X, DMRC said the station would remain closed until further instructions and confirmed that interchange facilities have also been suspended.

Seventeen Metro Stations Remain Closed

The closure comes as 17 metro stations across central Delhi remain shut for the third consecutive day because of heightened security measures.

The affected stations include:

  • Lok Kalyan Marg
  • Rajiv Chowk
  • Patel Chowk
  • Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
  • Barakhambha Road
  • Supreme Court
  • Seva Teerth
  • Janpath
  • Mandi House
  • Central Secretariat
  • ITO
  • Delhi Gate
  • Indraprastha
  • Khan Market
  • Jor Bagh
  • Shivaji Stadium
  • Jhandewalan

DMRC said interchange services remain available only at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations.

Commuters Face Travel Disruptions

The continued station closures have disrupted travel across central Delhi, forcing commuters to use alternative metro routes or switch to road transport.

Traffic restrictions around Jantar Mantar, Janpath and nearby areas have also contributed to congestion during peak hours.

Protests Continue Despite Wangchuk Ending Fast

The transport restrictions come as protests continue in support of the CJP's demands over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and examination reforms.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving government assurances on parliamentary discussions, compensation for affected families and protection for peaceful protesters.

However, demonstrations at Jantar Mantar continue, with security remaining tight across the national capital.
