HAIFA, ISRAEL – July 28, 2025 – Elbit Systems Ltd., a well-known defense technology company from Israel, has signed a major contract with Airbus Defence and Space. The deal, worth $260 million, is for the supply of Elbit’s J-MUSIC™ DIRCM (Directed Infrared Counter Measures) self-protection systems. These advanced safety systems will be installed on Germany’s A400M military transport aircraft.

The project will last six years and comes after approval from Germany’s Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Operations of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw).

What Does the System Do?

Elbit’s J-MUSIC™ system is part of its MUSIC™ family of defense tools. It helps protect aircraft from missiles that are guided by infrared heat – the kind used in MANPADS (Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems). These types of weapons are often used in surprise attacks on planes.

The J-MUSIC™ system uses special lasers and cameras to detect and stop these missiles automatically. Once a missile is detected, the system tracks it and blocks it, all without any help from the pilot or crew. It is fast, smart, and protects the plane in real time.

The system is also small and lightweight, which means it won’t slow down the aircraft or take up much space. It can fit on many types of planes, both military and commercial.

A Trusted System Around the World

Elbit’s DIRCM systems are already used by several countries, including Israel, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Brazil. Many aircraft companies also choose Elbit’s system for new and old planes.

This new German contract adds to Elbit’s growing reputation as a global leader in defense technology.

Statement from Elbit Systems CEO

Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis, President and CEO of Elbit Systems, shared his thoughts on the new deal:

“This contract makes Elbit Systems even stronger as a world leader in DIRCM protection. Many countries already trust our systems, and we are proud to help Germany protect their important military planes. Our partnership with Airbus Defence and Space is very important to us, and we are happy that our system will help keep German crews safe.”

About Elbit Systems

Elbit Systems is one of the top defense companies in the world. It creates high-tech systems that help protect countries and people. These systems work in air, land, sea, and cyber environments.

The company is based in Israel but works all over the world. It has about 20,000 employees in dozens of countries, spread across five continents.

Elbit reported $1.9 billion in revenue for the first three months of 2025 and holds an order backlog of $23.1 billion.

What This Means for Germany

Germany’s A400M transport planes are used to move troops, supplies, and equipment. Adding the J-MUSIC™ protection system will make these aircraft much safer, especially when flying in dangerous areas or on international missions.

The contract shows that Germany is investing in modern, smart defense tools to protect its forces in today’s changing global security environment.

This agreement is not just a business win for Elbit Systems — it’s a big step forward in making military flights safer. With advanced laser systems and fast threat detection, Elbit is helping protect those who serve.

As modern warfare becomes more unpredictable, deals like this prove how important it is for countries to stay prepared with the best tools available.
