Google Opens New AI Engineering Centre in Taiwan, Strengthening Global Tech Collaboration

Post by : Saif

Alphabet’s Google has opened a major artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure hardware engineering centre in Taiwan. This is the largest Google facility of its kind outside the United States and shows a strong commitment to technological growth and long-term partnership with Taiwan. The centre was officially launched on Thursday in Taipei. Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te praised the project, saying it demonstrates Google’s confidence in Taiwan as a trusted technology partner. He added that this move shows the world that Taiwan is not only an important part of the global technology supply chain but also a strong hub for developing safe and reliable AI.

Taiwan is home to TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, which produces advanced chips used by major companies like Nvidia that drive the global AI boom. The new Google centre strengthens this connection and highlights Taiwan’s importance in the AI industry. Aamer Mahmood, Google Cloud’s vice president of platforms infrastructure engineering, explained that the AI systems developed and tested in Taipei are used in Google data centres around the world and support devices used by billions of people every day. He emphasized that the centre is more than just a building; it is an investment in a technology ecosystem and a recognition of Taiwan’s rising role in global AI innovation.

The move also reflects the strong technological partnership between the United States and Taiwan. Raymond Greene, the de facto U.S. ambassador in Taipei, said the centre marks the beginning of a “new golden age” in U.S.-Taiwan economic cooperation. At the same time, Taiwan has been warning about potential risks linked to Chinese-made AI systems, including those developed by DeepSeek, while China rejects these concerns and continues to claim Taiwan as its own territory.

With this new engineering hub, Google has positioned Taiwan at the centre of its global AI growth plans. The investment shows confidence in Taiwan’s stability, engineering talent, and technological importance. As the world moves further into the age of artificial intelligence, this development strengthens Taiwan’s role as a secure and reliable partner in the global technology landscape.
