GySEV Finalizes Design for 11 New Flirt Inter-City Trains

Post by : Meena Rani

The design of 11 new Flirt inter-city EMUs ordered by the Hungarian private operator Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurth Railway (GySEV) in March has now been finalized. These five-car trains will be produced at Stadler’s Szolnok plant in Hungary, with production scheduled to begin this autumn. The first units are expected to enter service in the last quarter of 2027, and all 11 trains are projected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2028.

The exterior of the new trains prominently showcases GySEV’s signature green and yellow color scheme, ensuring strong visual recognition and continuity with the operator’s brand. Inside, the trains feature a contemporary design combining grey metal and glass elements with calming shades of brown and warm oak paneling, creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere for passengers.

These new inter-city EMUs will be deployed on the Sopron–Budapest and Szombathely–Budapest routes, complementing GySEV’s existing fleet of 20 Flirt EMUs. According to Szilárd Kövesdi, CEO of GySEV, “The 11 new inter-city trains will differ in many respects from the previously purchased regional multiple-units. The vehicles are optimised for longer journeys, perfectly meeting the expectations of modern long-distance transport. Passengers will enjoy an elegant and modern experience both inside and out.”

Designed specifically for longer-distance travel, the trains aim to provide enhanced comfort and a high-quality travel experience. With advanced features and a thoughtful interior layout, the new fleet reflects GySEV’s commitment to modernizing its services and catering to the evolving needs of its passengers in the 21st century.
