India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Flagged Off Between Howrah and Guwahati

Post by : Saif

India has taken a big step in modern train travel with the launch of its first Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the new train in West Bengal. The train will run between Howrah (Kolkata) and Guwahati (Assam), providing faster and more comfortable overnight travel for passengers.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper is a semi-high-speed overnight train. It covers nearly 1,000 kilometres in about 14 hours, which is much faster than previous trains on this route. It will stop at important stations along the way, allowing passengers from different towns to travel conveniently.

The train is designed with comfortable sleeping coaches and modern facilities. It has air-conditioned coaches where passengers can rest comfortably during overnight journeys. This is part of India’s effort to modernise its railway network and improve long-distance travel.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit also included the launch of other railway and infrastructure projects in West Bengal and Assam, with a total investment of more than ₹3,250 crore. These projects aim to improve railway lines, electrification, station upgrades, and connectivity in the region. Officials say these improvements will support both travel and economic growth.

Indian Railways officials said the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is a major milestone for the country. It is expected to reduce travel time, improve safety, and offer modern facilities to passengers. Many people in West Bengal, Assam, and nearby states welcomed the new service as it connects major cities on a reliable and advanced rail network.

This new train service also comes at a time when both West Bengal and Assam are preparing for upcoming state elections. The train is seen as a boost to infrastructure and connectivity for students, workers, business people, and families.

Passengers will soon be able to book seats and travel in comfort between Kolkata and Guwahati. The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train marks a significant step in India’s journey toward modern, high-speed, and convenient railway travel.
