Kolkata witnessed intense rainfall on Tuesday, causing significant waterlogging across railway tracks and disrupting both suburban and long-distance train services. Authorities deployed water pumps in multiple locations to clear accumulated water and restore normal operations.
Eastern Railway Operations Hit Hard
The Howrah division of Eastern Railway reported that continuous overnight rain affected the suburban services across the city. 25 EMU local trains were canceled, and several others were rescheduled.
“Eastern Railway is continuing its tireless efforts to maintain suburban services in Sealdah and Howrah divisions,” the official handle of Howrah division posted on X.
Suburban trains on Sealdah North & Main lines continued from the platforms, while Sealdah South services faced major disruptions, with most southbound trains short-terminating or originating from Ballygunge due to waterlogged platforms.
Additionally, Kolkata's circular railway services, popularly known as ‘Chakra Rail,’ were suspended because of waterlogging.
