Kanpur-Farrukhabad Rail Route to Face Long Disruption, Kalindi Express Diverted

Kanpur-Farrukhabad train services are set for major changes as railway authorities prepare for construction of an elevated railway track between Kanpur Anwarganj and Mandhana. The project will require a long traffic block on the existing rail route, affecting passengers travelling between Kanpur, Farrukhabad and nearby districts.

Kalindi Express Route to Change

Prayagraj-Bhiwani Kalindi Express will not continue on its existing route through the affected section during the construction period. Railway authorities have planned to operate the train through Kanpur, Etawah and Tundla instead. This change will affect passengers who normally use the train from Farrukhabad and other stations on the Kanpur-Farrukhabad section.

Railway officials have said that the elevated track project is expected to involve a major block lasting around two years for the Kanpur-Farrukhabad route. Construction could begin in July after the required railway block is approved and notified.

Other Trains May Also Be Affected

Kalindi Express is not the only service facing changes. Railway authorities are also examining the operation of other long-distance trains that use the route.

Farrukhabad-Chhapra Utsarg Express and the three-days-a-week Mathura-Chhapra Express are among the services that could be affected by the construction. Officials have indicated that the final arrangements for several trains were still under discussion in the reports available in June 2026.

Why Is the Railway Route Being Closed?

The disruption is linked to the construction of an elevated railway line between Kanpur Anwarganj and Mandhana. The project is intended to replace the existing arrangement in the busy section with an elevated track.

The approved project budget was reported at around Rs 1,100 crore, with 50% of the funds already released to the Railways at the time of the May 2026 report. Preparatory surveys had also started around the existing railway line.

New Railway Station Planned

Construction will also bring changes to local railway infrastructure. Ravatpur and Kalyanpur stations are planned to be replaced by a new Atal Bihari railway station near the Pulses Research Institute.

Officials said land demarcation and marking work for the proposed station was scheduled as part of the project preparation.

Passenger Impact

Passengers travelling between Kanpur, Farrukhabad, Kannauj and surrounding areas may need to check their train schedules before travelling. Longer routes and diversions could increase travel time, while some services may be suspended or shifted depending on the final railway timetable.

Reports also indicate that railway officials are considering alternative arrangements for passengers from Farrukhabad and Kannauj who depend on direct services towards Delhi.

Passengers should rely on the latest Indian Railways or railway-zone timetable before making a journey because the list of cancelled, diverted and rescheduled trains can change as construction plans are finalized.
