Oman Air has launched a new nonstop route between Muscat and Singapore, marking a major step in the airline's strategy to boost tourism and expand its international network. The inaugural flight is scheduled to begin on Thursday, with the airline also planning further expansion into North Asia over the next year.
The move is part of Oman Air's broader transformation plan aimed at strengthening its global presence while promoting Oman as a growing tourist destination.
New Singapore Route Targets International Travelers
The new service will operate four times a week, connecting Muscat directly with Singapore.
According to Oman Air's leadership, the airline expects strong demand from Singaporean travelers, who are known for frequent international travel. The new route is designed not only to improve connectivity but also to encourage more visitors to explore Oman as a leisure destination.
The airline believes Oman has evolved from being mainly a transit stop into a destination offering natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and outdoor tourism experiences.
One of the Longest Boeing 737 MAX Flights
The nonstop journey between Muscat and Singapore will take approximately eight hours, making it one of the world's longest scheduled flights operated by a Boeing 737 MAX narrow-body aircraft.
Oman Air expects seat occupancy during the first year to remain in the mid-to-high 70 percent range, with initial bookings already performing above expectations.
Transformation Plan Driving Growth
Since early 2024, Oman Air has been implementing a restructuring strategy focused on improving efficiency and profitability.
The airline has reduced unprofitable routes, renegotiated supplier contracts, improved aircraft utilization, and streamlined its workforce. These changes have helped lower operating costs and support the launch of new international routes.
Membership in the oneworld airline alliance, which Oman Air joined last year, is also expected to improve passenger connectivity through partner airlines.
North Asia Expansion Under Consideration
Oman Air is also evaluating new nonstop services to destinations in North Asia, with an announcement expected within the next 12 months.
Potential markets include China, Japan, and South Korea, where demand for nature-based tourism and unique travel experiences continues to grow.
The airline believes these markets offer strong opportunities for attracting visitors interested in exploring Oman beyond traditional tourist destinations.
Operations Recover After Regional Disruptions
Despite recent disruptions affecting parts of the Middle East, Oman maintained open airspace, allowing Oman Air to continue operating while some neighboring carriers faced temporary challenges.
Although passenger load factors briefly declined during the regional conflict, the airline says demand has largely recovered as travel confidence returns.
Oman Air expects continued growth as international travel stabilizes and new routes strengthen its network across Asia.
