The United States Department of Defense has announced a major new military deal with Boeing, approving a contract worth $8.6 billion to supply advanced F-15 fighter jets to Israel. The decision was confirmed on Monday by the Pentagon and comes at a time of ongoing conflict and heightened tension in the Middle East.
According to the Pentagon, the contract covers the design, testing, production, and delivery of 25 new F-15IA aircraft for the Israeli Air Force. The agreement also includes an option for Israel to purchase an additional 25 jets in the future. These aircraft are expected to strengthen Israel’s air power with upgraded technology and enhanced combat capabilities.
The deal was announced shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida. While officials did not directly link the meeting to the contract, the timing highlights the close military and political relationship between the two countries.
The Pentagon said the agreement falls under the U.S. foreign military sales program, which allows allied nations to buy American-made defense equipment. The United States has long been Israel’s largest and most important arms supplier, providing military support for decades.
Work on the F-15 jets will take place mainly in St. Louis, Missouri, where Boeing has major production facilities. The Pentagon stated that the project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2035, making it a long-term defense effort involving years of manufacturing and testing.
The announcement has drawn attention because it comes during Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Pro-Palestinian and anti-war protesters across the United States have repeatedly called on Washington to stop sending weapons to Israel, citing the heavy civilian toll of the conflict. However, both the current Trump administration and the previous Biden administration have continued military support for Israel despite these protests.
Supporters of the deal argue that Israel has the right to defend itself and that the F-15 jets are part of maintaining regional security. Critics, on the other hand, say the continued flow of advanced weapons risks prolonging violence and suffering in the region.
Boeing, one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense companies, stands to benefit significantly from the contract. The deal also supports jobs in the U.S. defense industry and strengthens Boeing’s role as a key supplier to American allies.
As the conflict in Gaza continues and diplomatic pressure grows, the F-15 contract highlights the deep military ties between the United States and Israel. It also raises ongoing questions about the balance between strategic alliances, regional stability, and humanitarian concerns.
