Transport Corporation of India Ltd (TCI) has inaugurated one of its largest warehouses in Kolkata, marking a significant expansion in its logistics network in Eastern and Northeastern India. Located in CGTA Nagar, the facility spans approximately 300,000 square feet and is built on 10.5 acres, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure to meet the growing demands of diverse industries.
Strategic Location for Regional and Cross-Border Trade
The new warehouse is strategically positioned to serve as a logistics hub for Eastern and Northeastern India. Its location supports cross-border trade with neighbouring countries, including Bhutan, Bangladesh, and several Southeast Asian markets. This move strengthens TCI’s presence in the region and enhances its ability to provide integrated supply chain solutions for businesses operating across international borders.
Wide Spectrum of Industries Served
Designed to cater to multiple sectors, the warehouse supports industries such as automotive, e-commerce, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail, and textiles. Additionally, it incorporates cold-chain storage solutions to address the temperature-sensitive logistics requirements of sectors like pharmaceuticals, perishables, and FMCG. The facility’s modern design ensures high-volume handling capabilities while maintaining operational efficiency.
Modern Infrastructure and Innovation
Manoj Kumar Tripathi, CEO of Transport Corporation of India Supply Chain Solutions, emphasized the facility’s focus on advanced infrastructure. “Our new warehouse in Kolkata reflects the growing economic activity in the region, fueled by positive state policies and enhanced connectivity with Northeast India through strategic infrastructure investments by the Government of India,” he said.
The facility includes:
Fly ash brick construction for durable building materials
Rainwater harvesting systems
Natural lighting to reduce energy use
Low-VOC paints
Ultra-flat laser screed flooring for efficient warehouse operations
Robotics-compatible infrastructure to integrate automation in material handling
Energy-efficient operations enabling high-volume capabilities
These features allow TCI to provide technologically advanced and scalable supply chain solutions for a wide range of industries.
Strengthening a Legacy in Indian Logistics
Founded in Kolkata in 1958 by Prabhu Dayal Agarwal Ji, Transport Corporation of India has grown into a leading multimodal logistics company in India. Over six decades, TCI has expanded its operations across the country, establishing a strong network in road, rail, and multimodal transport.
The launch of this new warehouse reinforces TCI’s commitment to providing modern, scalable logistics solutions. It enables businesses to streamline their operations in Eastern and Northeastern India while also supporting cross-border trade with neighbouring countries.
Future Prospects and Industry Impact
The warehouse is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating supply chain efficiency and reducing transit times for goods moving in and out of the region. Its advanced infrastructure is designed to accommodate the growing e-commerce, retail, and FMCG sectors, which are experiencing rising demand in India.
By combining innovation, technology, and operational scale, TCI is positioning itself as a preferred logistics partner for companies seeking reliable and high-capacity supply chain solutions.
