American Airlines Lowers Number of Jets Needing Airbus Software Fix

Post by : Saif

American Airlines announced an important update on Friday about a major software change required for many of its Airbus A320 aircraft. At first, the airline believed that more than 340 jets needed the fix. But after receiving clearer information from Airbus, the number has now been reduced to 209. This change has given the airline more confidence that the situation can be handled quickly and smoothly.

The issue began when Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, ordered airlines around the world to perform an immediate software update on a large number of A320 family jets. The update was considered urgent, and all airlines using these aircraft had to act fast. American Airlines was one of the carriers most affected.

Earlier in the day, American warned passengers to expect some delays as teams worked on applying the software fix. The airline said the update was necessary for safety and performance, and it wanted to make sure every jet was ready before continuing normal operations. While such updates are not unusual in the aviation industry, the scale of this one made it more challenging.

However, after Airbus provided more details, American discovered that the number of jets needing the update was far smaller than expected. Instead of 340 jets, the real number was 209. This correction helped reduce pressure on the airline’s maintenance teams.

By 6 p.m. CT, fewer than 150 aircraft still needed the update. American Airlines said it expects to complete the majority of the remaining work overnight. Only a small number of planes will still require attention on Saturday. This means that most passengers should not experience major disruptions to their travel plans.

Air travel can be affected quickly by technical changes, and airlines must respond fast to ensure safety. American Airlines has said that safety remains its top priority, and it is working closely with Airbus to finish the updates as soon as possible.

The aviation industry relies heavily on advanced software, and even small changes can require checks across entire fleets. This latest situation shows how airlines and aircraft makers must cooperate to resolve issues quickly, reduce delays, and protect passengers.

For now, American Airlines expects limited impacts on its schedule. The company thanked its teams for working quickly and promised to keep passengers informed.
