Cathay Pacific Expects Stronger First-Half 2026 Profit on Travel and Cargo Demand

Post by : Saif

Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific has projected a significantly stronger first-half profit for 2026, supported by rising passenger travel, solid cargo demand, improved performance from its low-cost subsidiary HK Express, and increased contributions from associated businesses.

Airline Forecasts Higher First-Half Earnings

Cathay Pacific said it expects its consolidated profit attributable for the six months ending June 30, 2026, to reach between HK$6 billion and HK$6.5 billion (approximately US$765 million to US$829 million).

The projected earnings are substantially higher than the HK$3.7 billion reported during the same period in 2025, reflecting continued recovery in the aviation sector.

Passenger and Cargo Demand Drive Growth

The airline attributed its improved financial outlook to strong demand for passenger travel and healthy cargo operations, both of which continued to perform well during the first half of the year.

Growing international travel, higher flight capacity, and stable freight demand have helped strengthen Cathay Pacific's overall business performance.

HK Express Boosts Group Performance

Cathay Pacific also credited HK Express, its low-cost carrier, for contributing to the group's improved results. The budget airline has expanded its network and attracted more travelers, helping increase overall revenue for the airline group.

Higher Contributions From Associated Businesses

In addition to strong aviation operations, Cathay Pacific said higher contributions from associated companies also supported its expected earnings growth during the reporting period.
