Driving India’s Drone Innovation

EndureAir Systems, a Noida-based deep-tech UAV startup, has raised ₹25 crore in its latest funding round led by IAN Alpha Fund, with additional support from IAN Angel Fund. This investment positions the company to expand its indigenous drone capabilities across defense, logistics, and enterprise sectors. EndureAir’s mission is to create reliable, high-performance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed and developed entirely in India, leveraging advanced research and in-house software and hardware expertise.

The infusion of funds will accelerate R&D, expand operational capabilities, and strengthen collaborations with both government agencies and commercial partners. With drones becoming an essential component of modern logistics and defense infrastructure, EndureAir is emerging as a key player in India’s UAV ecosystem.

Founding and Vision

Founded in 2018 by Dr. Abhishek, a professor of aerospace engineering at IIT Kanpur, along with his former students Rama Krishna and Chirag Jain, EndureAir began as a research-driven enterprise focused on UAV innovation. The founders envisioned a homegrown solution for India’s growing defense and commercial UAV needs, aiming to reduce dependence on imported drones and proprietary software systems.

The company’s approach emphasizes in-house design, development, and assembly, allowing greater control over performance, customization, and integration with local infrastructure. Over the years, EndureAir has secured a strong intellectual property portfolio, including eight patents related to rotorcraft and UAV systems.

Product Portfolio: Drones for Every Mission

EndureAir’s UAV offerings span a wide range of applications, from high-altitude logistics to micro-scale rescue operations:

Sabal Series: Heavy-Lift Logistics Drones

The Sabal series is designed for payload delivery ranging from 10 kg to 70 kg. These drones are capable of transporting supplies in challenging terrains where traditional vehicles cannot operate efficiently. A 20 kg variant of the Sabal has already been inducted into the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, demonstrating operational reliability in defense scenarios.

Vibhram: Long-Endurance Health & Supply Missions

Vibhram drones have been used in Telangana’s “Medicine from the Sky” initiative, delivering vaccines and critical medical supplies to remote areas. The platform offers long flight endurance and precise delivery capabilities, ensuring essential goods reach regions with limited road access.

Alakh: Nano-UAV for Rescue Operations

The Alakh series is a nano-UAV designed for critical rescue operations and rapid deployment in disaster scenarios. It has been deployed in response to the Chamoli cloudburst, Silkyara Tunnel collapse, and earthquake relief missions in Turkey, assisting first responders with aerial reconnaissance and real-time situational data.

The diversity of EndureAir’s product line reflects a commitment to addressing both civilian and defense challenges. By providing specialized drones for logistics, health, and emergency response, the company demonstrates the adaptability of its UAV platforms.

Strategic Collaborations: Partnerships to Scale

EndureAir has formed strategic partnerships to enhance both its technological capabilities and operational reach:

  • Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL): Co-development of high-altitude logistics drones capable of operating in extreme conditions, including mountainous regions.

  • Druk Holding & Investments (DHI), Bhutan: Pilot programs to deliver goods to remote monasteries, testing UAV-based logistics solutions in challenging terrains.

These collaborations not only improve the technological sophistication of EndureAir drones but also expand their practical applications, including cross-border logistics and defense operations.

Use of Funds: Fueling Expansion and R&D

The ₹25 crore funding will be strategically deployed across several key areas:

  • Defense UAVs: Strengthening EndureAir’s offerings for the Indian Armed Forces, including high-altitude and heavy-lift drones.

  • Enterprise Applications: Expanding into commercial sectors such as logistics, agriculture, and emergency response.

  • Next-Generation Platforms: Developing advanced aerial robotics, AI-enabled navigation, and autonomous flight capabilities to enhance operational efficiency.

The funding will also support scaling manufacturing processes, improving supply chains, and investing in software development for UAV flight management systems.

Industry Recognition and Achievements

EndureAir’s innovations have earned national and international recognition:

  • Stage 3 winner at the NIST First Responder USA Challenge, highlighting the utility of its drones in emergency response.

  • Awarded Start-up of the Year at the Aerospace and Defence Awards 2022.

  • Selected as a Forbes India Top 200 Company at DGEMS 2023, reflecting its growth potential and industry impact.

Additionally, co-founders Rama Krishna and Chirag Jain have been featured in Forbes India’s 30 Under 30 list in the Industry & Manufacturing category, acknowledging their contributions to UAV innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Indian UAV Market: Growing Opportunities

India’s UAV market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by defense modernization, logistics needs, and the rise of e-commerce. Government initiatives such as drone corridors and Drone Rules 2021 have facilitated broader adoption of UAV technology, creating opportunities for startups like EndureAir to scale.

Drones are increasingly critical in logistics, especially in regions with difficult terrain or limited road access. High-altitude UAVs can deliver essential supplies to remote areas, while heavy-lift drones support defense operations, infrastructure inspection, and industrial applications.

The convergence of defense and commercial UAV applications positions EndureAir to capture a significant share of the market. By focusing on indigenous development, the company strengthens national self-reliance in UAV technology.

Technology Edge: In-House Development

EndureAir differentiates itself through end-to-end in-house development. The company designs its rotorcraft, flight control software, payload integration systems, and communication modules internally. This vertical integration allows greater flexibility, reliability, and customization for mission-specific needs.

Key technological features include:

  • Autonomous flight with obstacle avoidance

  • Long-endurance battery and hybrid propulsion systems

  • Real-time data transmission for monitoring and logistics

  • Modular payload systems adaptable for diverse missions

This technological edge not only supports defense contracts but also positions EndureAir for broader enterprise applications, including industrial inspections, agriculture monitoring, and disaster relief.

Defense and Logistics

EndureAir drones have already influenced India’s defense and logistics sectors. Heavy-lift Sabal drones provide rapid deployment of supplies to forward positions, reducing dependency on ground vehicles. Vibhram drones enhance healthcare logistics, ensuring vaccines and medicines reach remote communities efficiently.

By offering reliable and locally-produced UAVs, EndureAir helps reduce imports and strengthens India’s domestic drone industry. Strategic collaborations with BEL and DHI extend operational capabilities while creating opportunities for cross-border applications.

Scaling and Innovation

With the new funding, EndureAir plans to accelerate R&D, enhance production capacity, and broaden its market reach. The company aims to introduce next-generation drones with improved autonomy, higher payload capacity, and longer flight durations.

EndureAir is also exploring AI-powered drone fleet management and swarm technology for defense applications, enabling coordinated UAV operations in complex scenarios. Expansion into enterprise applications, including commercial logistics and emergency response, is expected to drive revenue growth. The company’s strategy combines technological innovation, strategic partnerships, and operational scalability to position EndureAir as a leader in India’s UAV ecosystem.

Pioneering India’s UAV Sector

EndureAir’s ₹25 crore funding marks a pivotal moment for India’s drone industry. By developing indigenous UAV solutions for defense, logistics, and enterprise applications, the company strengthens national capabilities while addressing global challenges in aerial robotics.

As UAV adoption grows across sectors, EndureAir is poised to become a benchmark for innovation, reliability, and strategic deployment. The company’s focus on R&D, collaborations, and indigenous technology underscores its commitment to transforming India’s drone landscape and supporting critical missions both domestically and internationally.
