India’s EV Ambitions Meet Infrastructure Action
New Delhi, July, 2025 — As India races toward an electric mobility future, one name is quietly but powerfully energizing the country’s progress: EVOLT, the new electric vehicle charging brand launched by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

Built on a mission to provide smart, scalable, and affordable charging solutions, EVOLT has quickly emerged as one of India’s most promising initiatives in the public EV infrastructure space. From bustling metros to national highways, the EVOLT brand is becoming synonymous with reliability and accessibility in a landscape still catching up to fast-growing EV adoption.

Backed by the Government of India, EVOLT combines state support, public-private partnerships, and advanced digital capabilities to build a future-ready ecosystem for electric mobility.

What is EVOLT?
EVOLT is the dedicated EV charging infrastructure brand created by EESL, a joint venture of NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, REC Ltd., and Power Grid Corporation of India. While EESL has long been at the forefront of energy efficiency efforts in India—including LED lighting and smart meters—EVOLT is its focused vehicle for accelerating India's EV charging ecosystem.

The brand offers a suite of solutions under one umbrella: fast and slow AC/DC charging stations, centralized charging management software, payment integration, and even end-to-end turnkey deployment for urban bodies and commercial hubs.

“Our vision with EVOLT is to make EV charging as convenient and widespread as fuel stations,” said Vishal Kapoor, CEO of EESL, in a recent public briefing. “This is not just about chargers—it’s about building a green highway across India.”

Expanding Nationwide Charging Infrastructure
As of mid-2025, EVOLT has rolled out over 5,000 public charging stations across 200 cities and along major highway corridors. These include high-demand sites like metro parking zones, railway stations, malls, and office complexes.

Working closely with state transport departments and municipal corporations, EESL under the EVOLT brand is deploying both AC (slow) and DC (fast) chargers that are compliant with Bharat and CCS2 standards—ensuring compatibility across various EV models.

Among its key projects is the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Green Corridor, where EVOLT has installed more than 100 high-capacity DC chargers to support long-range EVs and fleet operators.

In Bengaluru, EVOLT’s partnership with BESCOM has led to dozens of charging points across city parking areas, making it easier for two-wheelers, autos, and e-taxis to plug in and move.

Public-Private Synergy: A Unique Model
What sets EVOLT apart from private competitors is its hybrid model—combining government policy strength with market responsiveness. Through MoUs and tenders, EESL partners with urban local bodies, energy utilities, and real estate developers to co-deploy charging points.

Private players benefit from EVOLT’s central monitoring platform, while users enjoy interoperable access through the EVOLT mobile app and RFID-based card systems.

“We are providing a plug-and-play ecosystem,” explained Sunil Rathi, VP, EVOLT Deployment, at an industry summit in Pune. “Our aim is to reduce friction in adoption—for fleet managers, real estate groups, and end-users alike.”

Technology at the Core of EVOLT’s Strategy
The EVOLT platform is designed to be IoT-enabled and cloud-connected, supporting dynamic load management, energy usage tracking, remote diagnostics, and real-time availability updates.

Each EVOLT station is integrated into a centralized dashboard that allows for:

  • Predictive maintenance based on charger performance
  • Smart energy load balancing
  • Integration with renewable energy (e.g., rooftop solar at charging plazas)
  • Unified billing and analytics for partners

Moreover, EVOLT is compliant with the National Electric Mobility Programme and FAME II guidelines, ensuring all subsidies and incentives are efficiently applied.

Enabling Last-Mile and Shared Mobility
EVOLT is not just about cars. The company is actively supporting the electrification of e-rickshaws, delivery vans, shared autos, and micro-transit vehicles—the real backbone of Indian urban mobility.

In cities like Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Kochi, EVOLT has launched pilot hubs specifically designed for light electric vehicles, including battery-swapping facilities for e-rickshaws and 3-wheelers.

These hubs often integrate with metro feeder services and commercial delivery centers, encouraging large fleet operators like Amazon, Zomato, and BigBasket to opt for electric logistics.

Green Energy Integration and Grid Readiness
EVOLT’s infrastructure roadmap also factors in India’s clean energy commitments. Several new stations are solar-enabled and feature energy storage systems (ESS) to manage peak loads and grid fluctuations.

“We are working closely with state DISCOMs and urban planners to ensure our EVOLT hubs do not strain the grid,” said Kapoor. “Instead, they become part of a smarter, greener power distribution model.”

Building Trust Through Reliability and Service
One of the biggest pain points in India’s EV journey has been unreliable public chargers—either non-functional, offline, or incompatible. EVOLT aims to tackle that head-on with strict uptime guarantees and 24/7 service monitoring.

The company runs a centralized command center that receives diagnostic data from each charger and dispatches service teams when anomalies are detected. In addition, its user-facing app lets EV owners book slots, rate their experience, and receive instant refunds for unsuccessful charges.

“The trust deficit in public EV charging is real,” admitted Rathi. “But EVOLT is bridging that with data, service, and transparency.”

Driving EV Adoption Through Awareness
Beyond deployment, EVOLT has also invested in community outreach and awareness campaigns. From college campus programs to auto-driver training camps and fleet-owner onboarding sessions, the brand is working to demystify EV charging across income and literacy levels.

Its recent “Charge India” campaign went viral on social media, highlighting the ease of EVOLT charging in tier-2 and tier-3 towns. The campaign featured testimonials from real users in Indore, Nagpur, and Patna, who praised the platform for reliability and accessibility.

EVOLT’s 2030 Vision
With India targeting 30% EV penetration by 2030, EVOLT is positioning itself as an indispensable enabler. The company’s internal roadmap includes:

  • 20,000+ public chargers by 2027
  • Smart charging integration with national highway waystations
  • Onboard diagnostics for buses and fleet EVs
  • V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) trials by 2026

EESL is also in talks with neighboring countries including Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka to export the EVOLT model as a regional solution for clean mobility infrastructure.

EVOLT as an Infrastructure Backbone
While EV sales often grab the headlines, it’s the quiet expansion of robust charging infrastructure that will determine India’s true EV readiness. And EVOLT, with its unique blend of policy support, tech innovation, and user trust, is quietly becoming the backbone of this new era.

As EV owners pull up to an EVOLT charger in remote towns or crowded metros, one thing becomes clear: India’s electric mobility future is no longer a distant vision. It’s plugging in—right now.
