HOST (T. Parker Host) has acquired Transmarine Navigation Corporation, forming what is now the largest tramp ship agency in the United States. This major consolidation marks a significant step forward for HOST, which has been steadily expanding its footprint across the maritime logistics sector.

The deal brings together two historic names in American shipping—HOST, founded in 1923, and Transmarine, a trusted agency operating since 1938. Together, the merged entity will provide unmatched coverage, expertise, and operational support to tramp shipping clients at every major U.S. port.

What is Tramp Shipping—and Why Does This Matter?
Unlike scheduled liner services, tramp shipping operates without fixed routes or timetables. These vessels, often carrying bulk commodities such as coal, grain, minerals, and fertilizers, go wherever the cargo needs to be delivered. It’s a high-demand, fast-moving segment of global shipping that requires responsive, adaptable logistics support.

By acquiring Transmarine, HOST dramatically strengthens its ability to serve this vital sector. The combined agency will handle thousands of ship calls annually, covering the U.S. Gulf Coast, East Coast, West Coast, and Great Lakes.
“Together, HOST and Transmarine can offer a national network, local expertise, and a commitment to service that is unmatched in the industry,” said Adam Anderson, President and CEO of HOST.

A Coast-to-Coast Maritime Powerhouse
The acquisition gives HOST an expanded geographic reach, allowing it to provide one-stop tramp ship agency services to vessel owners, charterers, traders, and shippers from coast to coast.

HOST already has deep roots along the U.S. East Coast and Gulf, where it manages some of the nation’s busiest bulk and breakbulk cargo terminals. Transmarine’s strength on the U.S. West Coast and Pacific ports—with a strong presence in places like Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Seattle—fills a crucial gap in HOST’s national coverage.

The result is a truly coast-to-coast operation, something few other U.S. maritime agencies can offer.

Strengthening Bulk and Breakbulk Supply Chains
The timing of this acquisition reflects broader trends in global shipping. With supply chains under pressure, particularly for bulk and breakbulk commodities, shippers are increasingly seeking reliable, responsive partners who can help vessels move efficiently through U.S. ports.

The expanded HOST will not only offer standard agency services like ship husbandry, documentation, and customs clearance but also deliver advanced cargo logistics, terminal operations, and supply chain management.

The combination is designed to help clients minimize port delays, control costs, and improve reliability—all critical priorities in today’s volatile global economy.

Preserving Legacy, Driving Innovation
Both HOST and Transmarine bring deep maritime legacies to the table. HOST has been a family-owned maritime logistics provider for more than a century, while Transmarine has been a cornerstone of West Coast shipping for over 85 years. Despite the merger, both brands emphasize that the legacy of local expertise and customer focus will remain central to their joint identity.

At the same time, HOST plans to invest in technology, digital tools, and expanded services that will position the combined agency for future growth in an increasingly competitive and complex shipping environment.

A Bold Step for U.S. Maritime Leadership
This acquisition not only creates the largest U.S. tramp ship agency but also signals renewed strength in America’s maritime services sector—an industry often overshadowed by larger global shipping giants.

For HOST, the vision is clear: to become the go-to partner for bulk and breakbulk shipping at every U.S. port, offering the reliability, flexibility, and responsiveness that tramp shipping demands.

As global trade patterns evolve and the need for efficient maritime logistics grows, the new HOST-Transmarine powerhouse is poised to set a new standard in U.S. shipping services—a move that could shape the future of tramp shipping for years to come.
