Macron Highlights Europe’s Judeo-Christian Heritage During Pope Leo Visit

French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted Europe’s historical and religious roots on Monday during Pope Leo’s visit to France, saying Europe was built on a Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian foundation.

He also warned against divisive nationalism, saying Europeans should continue to support cooperation and dialogue.

Democracy and European Unity

Macron described the European Union as a unique political project based on peace and equality among its members.

He said democracy can be weakened not only by war but also when people become isolated and stop listening to each other.

His message linked Europe’s historical foundations with the challenges facing the continent today. The speech placed particular emphasis on peace, truth, democracy and unity at a time when the war in Ukraine continues to affect European security discussions.
