OpenAI has asked a United States court to dismiss Apple's lawsuit accusing the artificial intelligence company of stealing trade secrets to accelerate its expansion into consumer hardware. The request marks the latest development in a legal dispute between two of the world's leading technology companies over the future of AI-powered devices.

In a motion filed before a US judge, OpenAI argued that it has "no use, need or desire" for Apple's confidential information and is developing products that are fundamentally different from those created by the iPhone maker.

OpenAI Rejects Apple's Allegations

OpenAI said Apple's lawsuit does not provide enough detail to support claims that its trade secrets were misused. The company argued that Apple's complaint relies on broad descriptions of product development rather than identifying specific confidential information protected under trade secret laws.

The AI company also stated that Apple had failed to demonstrate ownership of legally protected trade secrets or provide sufficient evidence that OpenAI or the former Apple employees named in the lawsuit had misappropriated confidential information.

OpenAI further claimed that the lawsuit was an attempt to shift attention away from Apple's own challenges in retaining employees and advancing artificial intelligence technologies.

Apple's Lawsuit Targets Former Employees

Apple filed the lawsuit in July, alleging that OpenAI and two former Apple employees obtained and used confidential company information to accelerate the development of consumer hardware products.

The complaint accused OpenAI of benefiting from former employees, recruitment practices and supplier relationships to gain access to proprietary information related to Apple's product development.

Apple has not publicly responded to OpenAI's latest request asking the court to dismiss the case.

Apple users can access ChatGPT responses through Siri, while iPhone users are also able to subscribe to ChatGPT services directly through iOS settings.
