President Droupadi Murmu Travels to Mathura on Maharajas’ Express

Post by : Meena Rani

President Droupadi Murmu traveled from New Delhi to Mathura on Thursday morning aboard the Maharajas’ Express, widely regarded as one of the world’s most luxurious trains. The Indian Railways arranged special coaches for the presidential journey, ensuring comfort, security, and convenience throughout the trip.

The Maharajas’ Express: A Mini Rashtrapati Bhavan on Rails

The train arranged for President Murmu comprises 18 coaches, including luxury cabins, dining cars, lounges, security, and staff coaches. Designed specifically for the President, the train features dedicated facilities that distinguish it from regular railway services.

  • Presidential Suite: Named Navratna, equipped with all modern amenities.

  • Family Suite: Named Hira, reserved for the President’s family.

  • Medical Suite: Named Neelam, managed by the onboard medical team.

  • Lounge for Officials: Rajah Club, used by senior officials from the President’s Secretariat.

  • Dining Facilities: Mayur Mahal and Rang Mahal, staffed by personnel from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • Junior Suites: Named Gomad, Manik, and Munga (the latter for railway officials).

  • Common Lounge: Safari, for general relaxation.

  • Staff Coach: Dedicated to the President’s entourage.

The train also includes two engines, two power cars, two luxury suites, two lounges, a kitchen, and two restaurants, creating a self-sufficient, air-conditioned travel environment. No stops are scheduled except in emergencies, making it an exclusive mode of travel for the President.

Purpose of the Visit

During her Mathura visit, President Murmu is scheduled to offer prayers at Shri Banke Bihari Mandir in Vrindavan and visit other significant religious sites, including the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Temple in Mathura.

Previous Presidential Train Journey

This is not President Murmu’s first journey on a special train. In June 2023, she traveled from Bhubaneswar to her hometown, Rairangpur in Odisha, aboard a similar specially arranged train.
